Firefox All Of A Sudden +6 Seconds Delay To Startup

Using FF for years already, since yesterday I get an annoying delay at startup which adds about six or so seconds until FF loads.

I already reset firefox, disabled plugins/addons etc... did a malware and hijackthis check. I cannot find anything.

I also redownloaded and re-installed it, also made a new profile with profile manager.

When I start up FF in "safe mode" it starts up fast, however when I start it normally and then disable all addons/plugins and then re-start there is still a delay. (So in other words, I still have the delay with addons/plugins disabled).

Any idea how I can trouble-shoot this?

if you use AdBlock Plus, uninstall it, then install ADBlock Edge which is the same minus the bloatware

it will improve your startup speed dramatically

run procmon. Filter to include all http in the "path" column. Maybe try ftp too.

Filter to include storage in the "path" column. I find that when my firefox opens, I sometimes get thousands of entries involving some removable storage device, even though none are connected.

I run procmon already but will again today and look closer, seriously it's driving me nuts. I basically did a complete re-install of FF, problem persists.

WOW..thank you very much!

This is a HUGE scandal! So basically the ABP guy has a deal with Google and other "advertising partners"...and makes money from advertising using his software So he does exactly what the software initially was intended to prevent.

I always wondered why recently Google ads were not blocked anymore using Google.

PS: My delay problem earlier was due NVidia 3d vision and the fact I had the Nvidia 3d vision disabled. It added a huge delay to my FF startup

yeah i didn't like the fact that ABP had an option checked by default which says:

"Allow some non intrusive ads"

what the heck is that! If I install an ad blocked, I want NO ads!

I had a similar thing happen with chrome a while back what I did to fix it is open internet explorer. Internet options-connections tab then hit on lan settings uncheck the box that says automatically detect settings.

Seems a tons of stuff use this setting and my steam game browser doesn't lag and spotify doesn't take 6-8 seconds to start up anymore either.

Lol, that guy on the ABP Mozilla page keeps deleting my negative reviews :)
I also 'like' how he calls them "non-intrusive ads". Go on Google and search for "webhosting" or similar....60% of the entire page is plastered with ads. Hardly what I call "non-intrusive".

What's more, he probably gets $10,000s (if not, he is a moron) from Google...while at the same time also begging for donations.

bl00dy hell you are really allergic to ads to spend so much on licenses for an ad blocker but I must admit, it is a top notch product with excellent support

If you install Lastpass with the universal install it installs a plugin version supporting your PC hardware, like a fingerprint reader and so on. When you start Firefox you get a delay of about 10 seconds where Firefox is not responding while the modules are loading.

Simply installing the stand alone browser addon without these added binaries removes that lock up time.

The OP didn't mention Lastpass, but a password manager is usually the last thing people think about when troubleshooting startup times.

So no, Lastpass won't "speed up" firefox, but it certainly can cause it to have a slow startup time.

Good point I like the way you think. Plus your from Norway which is a extra bonus!

He is right though I seen where Lastpass has this delay and even other add-ons.
