Firefox 5.0 Final is out!!!

Didn't we just get version 4 a few months ago?

Also I think this is the release candidate. It will be the final on June 21st.

Yeah if you feel you just got a v4 a few months and don't want to upgrade then don't :hmm:

And this is not Beta 7, Beta 7 was phased out yesterday, hence, this post, with the official download link from Mozilla's FTP.

Think before you post n00b

No personal attacks, please. -Admin DrPizza

You don't really have a choice anymore... Mozilla pushes out version updates to users (whether they want them or not) unless you disable the update feature.

These frequent version changes have to be pissing off web application developers... they probably just finished QA testing their site to insure that it's compatible with Firefox 4, and now they have a new version to worry about.

so it took forrrreeever for 4 to come out, yet 5 is right behind it. makes me think either 4 wasnt too competeable with chrome/ie or they really screwed soemthing up in 4.
i couldnt wait for 4, then when it came, i moved to chrome. love it.

I suggest you read forum guidelines, you DON'T post personal attack messages or be rude to other members here unless you want a vacation from the MODS,my point was simple my FF5 beta build 7 updated to Final official version today, meaning it's final official version of FF5 ,that clear enough for you?

Talking about the speed of how Mozilla is releasing FF updates, FireFox 6 Alpha was released the same time FF 5 Beta was announced!! I don't get it how they can be beta testing a whole new version of FF while releasing an even newer one LOL 😀

I didn't like v6 as all my themes were not compatible.

With v5 at least 30% are still compatible, and so is the XMARKS and IETAB2 addons 🙂

I find FF5 slightly faster then FF4,main difference personally is hard drive does not thrash around anywhere like it did with FF4 for general browsing.

It's basically Firefox 4.2, they didn't want to get psychologically behind in the version number wars.

Few HTML5 and security improvements, otherwise not much else beyond the version number.

Be interesting to how long before FF6 is final and main difference between that and FF5.

OMG its so much better! and faster! what used to take minutes now happens instantly!

yeah i figured it was the same browser once i updated. literally, nothing is different. im surprised it even says "5.0" in the about page.

Installed it into a separate folder and everything seems to have carried over from 4.0. I guess there is no reason to stick with 4.0 anymore.

The new version numbering is bs, and pointless. It's just a "me too" game with the other browsers. I've been running 7a1 for awhile, and you know what? It's pretty much the same as 4. I still prefer Firefox, but the versioning pisses me off.

Hey guys, you're missing a fundamental point about Mozilla's new version numbering. Previously the major version releases introduced big new features. Firefox 2 streamlined tabs and added Session Restore, and inline spell checking. Firefox 3 had the "awesome bar", which still beats all the other browsers IMO. Firefox 4 added App Tabs, Tab Groups, and tons of great UI features.

Mozilla's problem with this approach is that they were saving new features for the next major version, even if the code was ready to go 6 months before release. Their new model is to frequently release basically a "snapshot" of the current state of Firefox. There will be lots of new major versions; we'll be up to Firefox 7 by the end of this year. They are following the Chrome development model.

In the new model, new features get into users' hands quicker. But, the version numbers will rise at an annoying rate 🙁

I have gone back to Opera 11.11,reason being its just faster period,at least they don't go mad on the numbering game like other browsers.

I've been using Opera a lot lately, and like it a good bit, but sometimes it goes nuts and hammers my hd. Not a big deal on most machines, but my netbook has a dog slow ssd, and it locks up the whole machine.

I need to look into setting the cache on a ram disk. That's what I do with Firefox, but I haven't gotten around to it on Opera yet.

I had that issue with FF4.01 (HD thrashing) however never with Opera, btw I leave my cache on max (400mb)with Opera.
