Firefox 3 bookmarks -- where are they?

I want to, very simply, copy a new bookmarks list on a USB stick (taken from my desktop) to my laptop, replacing the old bookmarks file.

Where are the bookmarks located for Firefox 3 on Windows Vista?

this is asked a lot in various forums, so its easy to google this

google some form of your question for your answer

You can also have Firefox Export your Bookmarks and then Import them on the other system.
Bookmarks, Organize, Import & Backup is where you do it.

Starting in Firefox 3, bookmarks are stored in the places.sqlite file and bookmarks*.html files are only used for importing and exporting. As of Firefox 3 Beta 5 bookmarkbackup files are stored in JSON format.

If you wanted to access them in IE or a different computer you could get Foxmarks which will sync your bookmarks and favorites and passwords if desired. You can also export the bookmarks to a html file for importing in IE or any other browser that imports the html file as stated above. Here a link to Foxmarks......................

Ah, so that's why my search for "bookmarks" didn't turn them up. That sounds awful! I hope they had a good reason for taking something which should be very simple and making it more complicated.

You can do this with google bookmarks as well. Foxmarks is nice but the install requirement kills it. I prefer google bookmarks because when you go someplace like a hotel they are very likely to have the toolbar installed, which gives you access to all of your bookmarks.

For me personally I have 3 computers and one laptop and a couple usb sticks that I use Foxmarks to sync my Bookmarks and Passwords and it a great in that way. I also will make occasional JSON and HTML backups to store offsite

I was meaning to quote abaez.

I just started using Foxmarks, but i do the manual .HTML (well .JSON now) backups sometimes.

It's not more complicated at all. They work the same way.
