Firefox 3,5 feels sluggish

I recently gone from 3.0.x to 3.5 and the new engine just pushes my E7200@3,5 to 100% when loading some pages, causing the mouse pointer to jump around when moved. any movie/mp3 I play at the same time skips. what's the problem with this new version? never happened with 3.0!?

SOLVED BY UNINSTALL/REINSTALL.

I gave up firefox for now and went with IE8. I have had numerous issues with firefox lately. Hoping google chrome comes along soon. :brokenheart:

Have you tried it on a clean ff3.5 install and gotten the same results (ie no extensions etc.)? I've been using ffox for quite a while, but never a huge fanboy, but really love 3.5.

FF3.5 working fine on an old P3, on an Intel C2D laptop, on a AMD Phenom desktop as well as a Intel C2Q desktop in my house. Save your bookmarks. Remove all old traces of Firefox. Especially any extensions you have. Reboot and do a clean install. Now slowly add back your extensions and see if one of them is giving you a problem.

no, just installed on top of 3.0, I never had any problems with this installation before. I fear loosing my old settings. anyways, I have two machines, other one still on 3.0 I dare not put 3.5 on that one too. the 3.0 on that machine is running fine. no lagging issues whatsoever.

not really just roboform which I love so much, I updated to the latest version for that which is compatible with 3,5. anyways not sure what is screwing it up for me. could just be the clean install problem. but I will have to seriously back up my links etc before I do a clean install. the thought of that just gives me headache.

give a link on this portable version please? i check it out.

akugami:: thanks I fear I might just have to do this at some point, just hate to do it. I will see how annoying it gets for me. just hoping someone might have an easy soln for it.

Well, to be honest, all I did was install it on top of FF 3.0. I didn't do anything special. Fortunately none of my systems are showing any problems. Likely it is a corrupted setting somewhere which is why I recommended clearing out the old install (after saving your bookmarks) and just re-installing from scratch.

Hey guys, I got home and did the uninstall/reinstall routine, didn't need to backup settings, it had an option of not erase settings. so after I done that. I also disabled some themes I put on a while back plus any plugins I don't need. I think the cpu still shots up to 80-85% during rendering but I can browse and watch a movie at the same time now. I think it must be the plugin or installation problems that messed it up. still I wonder why it needs so much cpu.

Still not normal. I have multiple tabs open and even when playing a youtube movie with an E7400 the most my CPU shoots up to is about 5% for that process. Initial page render at most takes about 35% but that goes down pretty quickly. Sounds like one of your extensions is not behaving.

Don't save your settings. Do a complete uninstall. Go look for the various places that Firefox places information such as the profiles and also in the Program Files folder.

Go into your registry and delete any keys for Firefox that's still hanging around. It's a little extreme but it looks like you need to do a little housekeeping. Run a virus/malware check as well just to be on the safe side.

Try uninstalling stuff like Flash and Adobe Reader (or any other app) that hooks onto your web browsers as well. After uninstalling everything, reboot. Re-install Firefox first. Then install the stuff like Flash and Adobe Reader or other apps you uninstalled. Import your bookmarks.

If that doesn't solve it, then there's something seriously borked.

had to install the all in one gestures/tabsmixplus from the developers websites.
other than that its been pretty snappy
installed over 3.x

ff has always been bloated feeling imo. i fail to see how it's better than opera as everyone in the entire world believes!!!

I was trying to take the shortest path to fix this thingy. right now 80-85% cpu is alright for me, still can play movie w/o stuttering. I think I'll just leave it for now, unless it gets unbearable. i wish ff can just confine itself to one directory, would make life easier. thanks for your suggestions though, I will keep them handy in case I need to make the drastic move.
