1.5 is better.

Sounds like the reign of FF among techies is over. Every tech site you go to has nothing but complaints about 2.0.

BTW, 2.0 doesn't work for me. Tried it again today and got the same results I had earlier in this thread. I'm on Opera 9 mostly now and FF 1.5 the rest of the time.

I've had no problems with 2.0 and I've kept the same profile folder for 2 years now. It's gone through tons of FF upgrades including 1.5.0.7 to 2.0 RC1 to RC2 to final and everything still works fine. All of my favorites are still there, as well as all my saved passwords, history, and form data.

Same here, I just haven't noticed a decrease in memory usage.

FF2.0 is only using 55mb for me and I have 5 windows open. What extensions are you using? Chances are it's one of your extensions that is causing a memory leak. You should disable them and see if the memory usage improves. Then add them back one at a time to determine which extension it is that's causing the problem.

the close buttons on each tab is a bit annoying, but i can deal with it, but I can't right click and save anymore for some odd reason.

and the download manager used to automatically pop up when i'm downloading something, but it doesn't even do that anymore. I think I'll be reverting back to 1.5.

Check your history file. I have found if you do not clear your browsing history file, it can jump up your mem usage because it is allocating thread space for each historical element. However, and this is just a guess, is it possible that the spell checker is eating up that spare mem?

For those of you wishing to have back the old Firefox "x" button on the tab bar, you don't need an extension anymore.

Type "about:config" into the URL bar.

Search for "browser.tabs.closeButtons".

Double-click it and set its value to one of the following:

0 - Displays a close button on the active tab only.
1 - Displays a close button on each tab. *This is the default.*
2 - Does not display close buttons anywhere at all.
3 - Displays a close button at the end of the tab bar. *This is the default for Firefox 1.x*
