IE = swiss cheese, Firefox = nuclear bunker.

Rock! I have seen popups get through the google toolbar in IE. I haven't had any popups get through Firefox's popup blocker.
Firefox has been my browser of choice for a long time now.

I'm waiting for the actualy Firefox v1.0 to release.

Why? It's not like this very buggy. IMO it's a very good product as-is.

If you like IE, fine, stick with it. I hate IE and prefer the way Firefox works. Tabbed browsing is a huge feature, all the nice modules/addons, works in lots of OS's (Mac OSX, Windows, Linux), built-in popup blocking that works great. I'll never go back. Only reason I sometimes use IE is because some web site developers only design for IE. Like my credit card company....

Ok, I have it setup and configured the way I'd like to use it but I have one question. I have what looks like 2 address bars. One is the standard address bar the second one is on the far right and has a google symbol in it. What is that second bar and how can I get rid of it?

Thanks.

That is a thing where you type something in, press OK and it will search Google for you.

If you want to remove it, right-click on the bar, and select Customize, then click/drag the little box from the menu into the box that just popped up, and it will disappear from the menu.

Thanks Confused, that did it for me.

I like this broswer, it has all the functionality of IE for me. I just can't get used to the tabs. :) What are they good for? Does having 5 Firefox tabs take up less memory than 5 separate Firefox instances?

Remember that you can use your mouse wheel click to open links in tabs, and you can also close tabs with the same mouse wheel click :)

I use tabs to keep my browsing organized. For example, when reading these forums look over the topics and middle click everything that I am interested in. The tabs open in the background and I end up with a queue of the topics I want to read. In a second windows I may be reading an article with links to other articles that also interest me. I can just click the links have them ready to go without slowing down with the article I'm on. I try to keep it so that each windows is a subject and the tabs are different things about that subject. Very organized and very fast browsing with tabs.

Bookmarking a group of tabs is nice too.
Just open all the "daily sites", AT, Ace's, TheReg, etc, then bookmark the group.
Next day, just open the whole bunch in one bookmark :)

Not to mention, with tabbrowser extensions, you can undo "Close tab" in case you close a tab by mistake.

installed it over the old version....can't get themes to install (it downloads the jar file and then craps out?) and I managed to "install" the tab preferences, but when I try and open the options for it it crashes out too. not to mention I had to start FF in safe mode first before it it would even open. it would start, the process would be running with 50% CPU usage but it would never come up. I'll play with it some more, maybe try doing a fresh install at home. still looks like a step in the right direction.

now if only all the tab goodies would come in-box instead of having to get an extension to really use them!

I like how I can download Firefox at work on the MacOSX machines and customize it to be identical to the one at home on my WinXP machines. IE for Mac is possibly the worst browser ever.

A lot of extensions will not work with the 0.9's new extension management. You have to wait until the authors release updated versions.

I hope most of the authors will get around to updating soon. This new extension manager is great.

Do you really like having 10 IE windows open cluttering up your taskbar? :) I always had trouble finding the window I want to be viewing.

Also, tons of useful shortcuts in firefox.
ctrl+t = open new tab
ctrl+left click = open link in new tab
ctrl+tab = go to next tab
ctrl+shift+tab = go to previous tab
middle click on a tab = close tab
ctrl+w = close current tab
ctrl+k = go to search bar (I like to combine this with an alt+enter to open the search results in a new tab
...
The list goes on. :D
