FireFly reboot possible

well this is interesting.

Ever since Firefly ended, and Serenity graced theaters, sci-fi fans have been begging for more of the brown coats.

The series only lasted for one year on Fox, but it is widely regarded as one of the best sci-fi shows in history. The Joss Whedon creation - starring Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk - is still gaining momentum and fans to this day.

The folks at Fox often ask if they would ever be willing to make a reboot of Firefly, or at least revisit the original with some more episodes. With X-Files, Prison Break, and 24 all getting new shows, is it really out of the question?

According to Fox President Of Entertainment David Madden, the option for more Firefly is on the table. There's only one condition:

Joss Whedon has to be on board if it's going to get made.

It's because of Whedon that the show became the landmark that it was, and Fox doesn't want to get involved without him. They know it could be a hit, but they aren't willing to drop the show's identity.

Madden was sure enough about his decision to mention that he wouldn't even consider the possibility without Whedon's involvement.

So, if you're hoping for more Firefly, look to Joss Whedon. It seems to be in his hands now.

I loved the movie and the show (show moreso), but that Joss Whedon dude has proven a certified loon cuck. I'll pass. Bring on the next Star Wars and Star Trek...

The only way it could be done at this point without ruining it, imo, would be to focus on different characters. The universe (star system?) is pretty interesting on its own merits, I'd prefer they not try to bring back characters from 15 years back.

Having said that, it might flop without said characters, so I'm kinda leery about this as a concept entirely 🙁

The only loon is Adam Baldwin. He makes Ted Nugent look like a pot-smoking flower child.

Still wouldn't ruin it for me because I'm not a child.

No, just....PLEASE no.

IMO, there's no way they could capture the chemistry of the original cast...and that made it a better show than the story lines ever did.

Star Trek and Star Trek TNG come to mind. You can successfully set an entirely new show in a familiar universe. They could probably convince the cast of Firefly to do guest spots here or there to kind of maintain continuity and if not you can still use the same backstory like TNG did. Captain Mal Reynolds and the original Firefly crew would be legendary and could be referred to just like Captain Kirk and the original Enterprise crew was on TNG.

I would excitedly watch! Yes the movie made some changes that would be hard to swallow moving forward but I would watch with an open mind. I love Joss Whedon's stuff. I'm in, with hope and anticipation in my heart! I guess that makes me a cheerleader though I was a soccer player. I made fun of cheerleaders in high school (I even made the team on a dare but turned them down for soccer) <--- unnecessary share? Sure thing.

Bring back Firefly!

I for some unfathomable reason missed seeing the show and saw the movie first. Thought how amazing it was how the actors had the whole space cowboy talk and action down to a pact, all well acted. I loved the movie but couldn't get into the TV shows. Anyway after the movie any TV show might be a let down for me.

I was the same. Saw the movie w/o even knowing there was a TV show. Saw the show years later though and it is one of my favorite shows.

I hope they do reboot this series. That way, when you morons don't watch it again, you can complain about how they moved every episode (despite only 1, the 3rd, actually being moved for the world series) and cry when it gets shitcanned again.

There is a reason most people think you are a dick, to be blunt about it.

Because I know the actual facts of what happened and don't give two shits about the morons who complained the show was canceled for imaginary reasons. It was a good show, but people didn't watch it. That is the facts. They didn't keep changing the times it was airing, that was only for the third episode. And, once it is rebooted, the same will happen and we get another round of idiots complaining for no other reason than they didn't fucking watch it.
