i heard something buzzing near my head, so i reached out and smacked at the pillow i'm leaning against. managed to get it on the first hit. if id known it was a firefly i woulda left it alone 🙁. but this dude was crushed, and his light kept blinking for 30 secs or so. cool. camera left in car so no pics

My mom tells me that some of her friends used to kill Fireflies and then paint their faces with the juices. They'd glow for the next hour or so.
 
I hit a firefly with my car a few nights ago. It smacked my windshield just as it was glowing, and the juices were glowing for the rest of the drive (5 minutes or so)
 
THey're fun, you rub their butts against paper or the floor and it still glows! My dad told me stories of when he was a kid so I tried it back in the day 😛

Its a chemical reaction with oxygen in the air just FYI

LOL, impossible. The light stays on for a few seconds. That's why fireflies flash, because it needs "recharging" between each flash.

I live in the midwest and I have thousands hit my windshield every year. It results in a flash, and then the light quickly dies.

Haha I was going to post the same thing! Part of him stuck by my windshield wipers and it glowed for a few minutes afterwards.
