Fired from my Job

So i'm having a rather shitty day, I've been working at my job for 3 years, started as a temp and was promoted 3 times over the years.

I had never been written up until a few weeks ago, for a rather stupid reason, that I don't think I did but couldn't prove and tbh the VP writes up most employees bi monthly for simlar reasons so I took it as a whatever just typical bs.

Now a driver who I manage last night lied saying he told me he couldn't do something that I told him to do on time, when he never told me that. I was fired over it because the customer we were late for delivery for raised hell and demanded someone to be fired over the issue (we have been having problems on that account for a while do to lack of equipment and manpower)

He said he had to let me go over it because he claimed I should of known about the isssue. he wanted me to sign a form saying I agree with it, which I refused. the hilarious thing about it is he said I had alot of potential and if I wanted to I could use him as a reference for a future job (I mean wtf)

can they block my unemployment on this? I know my immediate boss and his boss went to bat for me to try to keep my job, and basically everyone there has told me I can use them as a reference and is saying what happend to me is BS. the VP is one of those hot shot 20 year olds who got his position because the family owns the buinsess. I have a feeling he is going to try to be an ass and block my unemployment and I really need it to get by since I know a job isn't going to be easy to get and could take a couple months

You need to look into unemployment laws in your state. Do you live in an at will employment state?

Don't sign shit. Don't sign a single thing. Never sign shit.

You sign ANYTHING and you're screwed. Here me now, you'll be hardballed to sign away your agreement. They're trying to hardball you into quiting and they will use any tactic to do so. REFUSE.

Don't sign shit. Don't sign a single thing. Never sign shit. No resignation letter, no nothing. You were terminated.

DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING. Have you heard me yet?

I think this is right. If you were fired you can get unemployement. If you signed the paper, most likely they were trying to fool you into signing it saying you agree you did it wrong and will quit/agree to being terminated. Then they would have been able to block your unemployment.

sounds like you will have no problems getting unemployment.

If he signs he surely will have problems as he'll effectively resign. I had this happen to me way early in my career. It's a tough lesson to learn.

Don't sign anything. Period.

yeah, it sounds like he didn't sign anything.

I didn't sign that time but at the previous writeup I did, I had no choice its one of those sign or your fired things, and those things are handed out like tps reports at this place so I was like whatever.

yeah, that shouldn't be an issue and thankfully you didn't sign anything this time.

Not only could it have been used for denying your unemployment but also to prevent you from suing them for wrongful termination.

Sorry to hear it man.

It probably depends on what state you are in but...
If you were fired you get unemployment. If you quit you cannot get unemployment.

If you sign something it might include legal language that says you are resigning rather than being fired. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING.

Are you an "at will" employee? What state are you in?

Lol, I think we have good unemployment laws, like you could milk it for a year.

I say good as in if you're lazy and want to draw unemployment instead of working, like a doucher, but it's not your fault, so you don't fit into that category.

haha I know its horrible I know people who have been on unemployment for 2 years. another thing that may be in my favor that I have an open unemployment claim because I work automotive and I was laid off for a couple month last summer when GM was going through all that mess with the bankruptcy

Yeah, don't sign anything. They can't force you to sign and you gain nothing by signing. They already fired you and in the worse case don't use them as reference. I feel for you. Now, it's no a good time looking for jobs.

dont worry.. unless you where driving under influence, or gross negligence You WILL get Unemployment.. (at least around here) just file asap online
