Firebird & Horizons MMORPG

How many people have tried the new MMORPG Horizons? It uses a web based launcher. And, of course, the shortcut to the game defaults to IE. Well, I don't want to use IE any longer.....in part because of it's security leaks, problems with letting in spyware, etc. Anyway, when I try to launch Horizons out of Firebird, the launch button is simply inactive. I can login and select my character in Firebird, but when the final step arrives (launch), the button is there but does nothing. Any way around this other than going back to IE? And, BTW, it kinda pisses me that it appears that MS made some sort of agreement with the developers to preclude browsers other than IE.

I doubt there's a real agreement, it's more of the developers being lazy and/or stupid and not knowing how to write code that doesn't depend on IE's bugs.

What is the "launch" button? A shortcut on your computer somewhere? A button in an app somewhere? A button on a web page?

It's a button on a web page. To get into Horizons, you first click on a shortcut (in my case, on my desktop), which launches IE and directs you to the Horizons web site. You log in (email addy and pwd), choose a character to play, then click on the launch button. This boots up the game. Everything on the web page works through Firebird, except that final step. The button is there but there is no rollover image, no sound, just nuttin.

I was in the beta, and no, Firebird won't work. Their launcher uses an ActiveX app, which only IE can do.

It is neither laziness or stupidity. It is knowing that 95% of users are going to be using IE. Why spend the money coding and testing something that will make you almost no money? For the zealots that REFUSE to use anything else, they can go do something else.

In this case, I would go do something else, Horizons has been my biggest letdown this year :|

This is one of the stupidiest comments on this forum i've heard in awhile.
