Big fire at griffith park is going on...100 acres burned so far. They evacuated the zoo, the observatory...all that.

Today was a "Red Flag" day because of the weather. Someone did it on purpose!

UPDATE- over 600 acres burned, and only 30,000 of home damage done since yesterday. The guy they thought lit it is 'no longer a suspect' according to the L.A. police.

Ugh. Unfortunately, we're going to have a lot more fires like that this season thanks to all that brush/vegetation that bloomed after the constant, heavy rains a couple of years ago that is now tinder dry thanks to drought conditions.

On the bright side, this is one of the rare moments I'm glad I don't live in or near the hills. 😉

Holy crap... I didn't see it until I read this, just looked out the window from work and I saw the giant smoke plume. It's sad that they just renovated the place too, hope nothing is damaged because I planned on going back to it soon.

:music:
Somewhere high in the desert near a curtain of blue
St. Anne's skirts are billowing
But down here in the city of limelights
The fans of Santa Ana are withering
And you can't deny the living is easy
If you never look behind the scenery
It's Showtime for dry climes
And bedlam is dreaming of rain

When the hills of Los Angeles are burning
Palm trees are candles in the MURDER wind
So many lives are on the breeze
Even the stars are ill at ease
And Los Angeles is burning

This is not a test
of the emergency broadcast system
When Malibu fires and radio towers
Conspire to dance again
And I cannot believe the Media Mecca
They're only trying to peddle reality
Catch it on Prime Time
Story at nine
The whole world is going insane

When the hills of Los Angeles are burning
Palm trees are candles in the MURDER wind
So many lives are on the breeze
Even the stars are ill at ease
And Los Angeles is Burning

A placard reads "the end of days"
Jacaranda boughs are bending in the haze
More a question than a curse
How could hell be any worse
The flames are stunning
The cameras running
So take warning!

When the hills of Los Angeles are burning
Palm trees are candles in the MURDER wind
So many lives are on the breeze
Even the stars are ill at ease
And Los Angeles is burning
:music:

I could see the smoke as I was driving the 405 towards Santa Monica.

I'm kind of glad that the news has something new to talk about instead of the police beating up the Mexicans and news reporters.

It's been nice and cool in my Redondo apartment all night.

This is terrible. It's not 100's of acres of nothing. There are historic sites and buildings all around!

Here are a couple pics i got
pic1
pic2

I work on one side of the fire, and live on the other side. I took this pics from my home side. I had to drive through that smoke you see in the pic. When I drove under it, the sun was blocked out for like 30 seconds.

Seems like none of those sites were damaged.
So far, according to LAtimes.com - http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/breakingnews/
? More than 817 acres burned
? Fire 50% contained
? Full containment expected tonight
? Some firefighters let go
? Most evacuations lifted

looks like good news 🙂

Ugh, seems like every time the Santa Ana winds pick up we get these massive fires...then of course the air quality sucks ass for a few weeks after.

It's still better than the everyday air quality in major Chinese cities.
