Whenever I turn on my furnace the fire alarm starts to bleep and I get this really quite nasty burning sensation coupled with a fairly nasty cough and breathing difficulties.

If I take the battery out of the alarm, it stops. Should I stay in my flat and ask people online if it is wise to do so, or should I maybe think about what the alarm is trying to tell me?

Interestingly, this is my 5th fire alarm this month as they somehow keep melting.

There is a fire in your flat.

Good luck!

That's not a furnace, that's a bookshelf.

I strongly suggest that you get yourself a carbon monoxide tester/alarm.

And what kind of furnace is it? What fuel does it use and how is the heat transfered (forced air, hot water pipes, open burning, etc.)

Is the furnace working? Check the pilot light. Maybe you're just pumping gas into your house. Don't light a match :p

Is that a combo fire/CO detector? Sounds like you're trying to kill yourself.

EDIT: Wow I'm a dumbass and should read the whole post before responding with serious advice.

I think there is a reindeer stuck in your furnace from last year.
Keep turning your furnace on for another week or so. Then go take it out and you should have some real good jerky to eat.

Yea, and a bad one at that.

Agreed. The point was to emphasise the fact that the original poster (of the thread I parodied) was a complete tard, I mean... the CO alarm goes off and he doesn't think to get one of the chemical testers or react but instead posts here.

Idiot.

i was genuinely worried about you :(

You guys surely cannot be serious. Burning sensation? Cough + breathing difficulties? melting fire alarm... these are symptoms of a genuine house fire.

Whatever you do, please don't ever take up a career as a detective!
