Whole building evacuated. Took the fire department 15 minutes to show up, only to find nothing, as far as I can tell. Still have no idea why it went off though. Yay for getting paid to stand outside.

from the outside that sounds boring as hell.

However, I can recall a time about a month ago when the lights went out for all of the clinic where I work (I'm head IT).
Nobody could work and so it provided an opportunity for some interesting conversation.

I made some friends that day. Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way.

That happened at my office about a month ago, unfortunately it was 15 degrees outside, and most of the people had left their coats inside. No fun at all.

Used to work on the 21st floor and I try to time the fire drills so that I don't have to walk down 21 flights of stairs. Success rate is only about 10% :(

Tonight at 6:00 - Fire alarms across the country go off without any apparent reason. Terrorists? You decide!

About once a month, the fire alarm will go off in the building I work in. 1 to 5 minutes later, the security guard will announce over the intercom that it's a false alarm. If there is ever a real fire, most of the people in the building will die because they simply ignore the fire alarm. I always start walking down the stairs after about 2 minutes.

We have semi-regular tests of the system, but they are always announced well before hand, or at the very least right before they go off. Interesting to have to spend some time outside doing nothing.

At my last job, I was in a 27 floor building so when the fire alarm went off, only the first 5 or 6 floors got evacuated. Lucky I was on 12, so didn't have to go anywhere...
