Try a different router?

You can't really do that with FiOS, especially if your connection comes over coaxial in the house. And if you turn the router/modem into a bridge, you'll break your VOD stuff if you use their TV service.

Soooo,, THIS would fix my problem? If i make it a bridge/modem? I'm only using verizon internet. Tv is comcast. and i use voip

Is your FIOS coming over ethernet or over the MOCA? If over the ethernet, yes, you can switch routers. I know this because I have FIOS and I don't use the verizon router. Just be sure to remember, the FIOS lease time is 2 hours, so when you switch, you'll need to either clone the mac or wait around 2 hours for the lease to expire and renew on the new router.

As I mentioned in your other FIOS post, I don't use the actiontek router that FIOS comes with, but...

I believe the router is a UPnP router. Log into its settings and make sure it's turned on. Then make sure windows is using the UPnP ability of the router. That should hopefully do the trick.

Grrrrr.....I got FIOS yesterday. Installation took 5 hours. They pulled fiber into the apt....then they terminated it at a box that they installed in the closet. From the closet/box, it got turned to coaxial. Since fiber is terminated in the closet in mt apt, is there a way I can just have ethernet from the box instead of coaxial? I think there is an ethernet port, but i do not remember. i would check now, but my gf is sleeping. The modem/router is so dam big and it keeps restsing the password to the factory spec.

edit:

man, i just read some of that stuff at dsl reports. It sounds like you can request the change to ethernet for the modem, but they may charge you. that blows. I still have 27 days to cancel if they piss me off.....the TV portion of FIOS is not that great anyways and the internet does not seem much faster. Comcast has more free on demand stuff too.

How do you tell if VOD will be effected by ethernet?

Yup, it definately will be, You don't have a choice if ur using fios tv /phone, I think you have to use the verizon router.

I am getting a switch soon so i can make files transfer faster between my computers, vs the 'so-so' verizon router.

Just to let you know, regardless of if you have the FIOS TV, you can request that the data be provisioned over FIOS. You will still need the verizon router for the cable STB's to receive the VOD programming, you can just put the verizon router after your primary router. You would have to call Verizon and yes, they probably will charge you extra.

But since the TV goes over coaxial, if you have ethernet to the Actiontec modem, you can set the "ethernet" portion in its entirety into a bridge mode with your own router and leave the coaxial portion alone (and thus your VOD and menus will remain intact). Though, YMMV - check google for guides on how to pull it off.

They charge you a f'n arm and leg. $80 for them to come out and get me another receiver for my bedroom. Good thing the FIOS tech already made a whole in the wall (I forced him to do it). will I be able to have them just send me a new box and program it myself or over the phone? $80 is a rip off. all they will do is put another splitter in. i can do that for free since I have a few of those laying around.

Also...anyon else think Comcast cable is better than FIOS cable? The on demand on FIOS sucks.

Tell them you want a self-install kit for the extra box because the wiring is already in place.

I don't think Comcast is better than FIOS. My signal from Comcast is kind of crappy and they gave me these shitty boxes. The Comcast OnDemand is okay. Can't comment on the FIOS on demand stuff, as my parents have FIOS and I was home for only a day or two after they had it installed and haven't been back since.
