FIOS or DISH for HD

I currently have DISH hooked up in my home and want to upgrade to HD. I already had the HD installers scheduled to come when I found out FIOS is now available in my area. I'm not in a contract with DISH so leaving them is not a problem.

Anyone have opinions on either companies HD? What I've picked up so far is.

FIOS - Slightly better HD and SD, more HD channels, better price because of bundle, horrible DVR, horrible customer service

DISH - Good DVR, less channels, more expensive, I've had good experience with customer service so I wouldn't expect it to change.

Any opinions on either service would be great.

Thanks

I have neither service so take this with a grain of salt (I am getting FIOS internet next week however).

Based on the choices you list, my first thought would be FIOS and a Tivo HD DVR. The downside would be that Tivo won't allow you access to FIOS VOD or pay per view. Another downside would be the cost of the Tivo HD DVR and the monthly service but it does give you the best DVR currently available IMHO.

For myself, I recently canceled all my video services from my provider, Time Warner Cable. I get all the content I have time for online through services like Hulu, Netflix and studio's web sites (ABC, USA, Etc). I understand this doesn't work for a lot of folks, for instance if you have kids it may not work well. However, it does work great for me and it saves me a lot of money.

Dish would probably make you a awesome offer to have you stay. I have a VIP722 and the HD seems fine to me. I cant really say if FIOS is better since I went from Time Warner to Dish. I did have a ton of issues for a while with Dish that finally got worked out. I am still on the fence about Dish since I don't have any other HD companies to compare them to. I would haggle with Dish see what they would do for you then go from there, they just might bend over backwards to keep you.

I have dish HD service and love it. i only have a 720P TV but to me the picture quality is excellent. in my case their customer service is horrible, i have had nothing but problems with them over 3-4 different issues. i have the VIP722 receiver and love being able to record 2 programs at once and still watch TV at the same time. so if you are happy with their customer service i say go for the dish HD just make sure they do not overbill you like they did to me
