Does anyone else have an issue where sometimes changing channels on this thing causes to re-handshake with the TV over HDMI? My TV pops up the input name when that happens, so I can tell pretty clearly when it does. Is there any sort of fix, short of complaining to Verizon?

EDIT: Wrong forum. Realized it as soon as I hit the post button. Can a mod move this for me?

its not always the box. several tv manufacturers actually owned up to issues concerning firmware/bad ports and if u complain enough to them they send a tech out to do it for you. you would be surprised how many tvs have hdmi issues.

On the other hand other than trying a different cables u can try for a box swap. field tech drop offs are usually refurbs/returns so i would try to do it at a b&m shop if there is one around you.

It only recently started happening, though. I'm thinking a firmware update got pushed out for the box. I've had this TV for 4 years, never had this happen until recently.

I might just hook up component cables to see if that works around it.

Our Verizon box used to have similar issues, renegotiating the link, but it would do it randomly, maybe once an hour. Verizon / Motorola admitted there was an issue. I'm guessing they had to have pushed a firmware update at one point because it hasn't done it in at least 6 months.

yeh.. as much as a hassle as component is its a lot more stable than hdmi.

or pray for the next patch comes out soon in your region. if an issue is widespread it should be within the week.

I changed to component, and it still does it. It means the box is actually cutting off the video output when changing channels. I've done a little testing, and it only happens when I switch between channels in different "packages" - mostly when I go from a regular network HD channel to an Extra Innings channel. It also happens going from SD to HD and back.

Still never happened before. It's faster with component, too. Enough that I could live with it, but I'll call tomorrow and see if they know of a fix. Verizon is known to use quality hardware w/ Fios, says my cousin in the business.

ive seen this happen for a few scenarios.
either
-the box is literaly bad
-input signal is low (there is a way to check the coax signal in db on the box itself but it isnt all that accurate i think its power > menu > menu) where the box is having a hard time "catching" the channel. can be from a splitter going bad, wall plate etc
-tv has gone poop

most field techs would test the coax, replace your box and tell you its your tv if it doesnt work. phone techs will tell u to try it with different tv/cables.
