FIOS and ethernet

Anyone here have fios internet over ethernet? If so, does TV still connect to the coax at the STB? I am trying to figure outif it is worth it to push verizon to switch me to ethernet from the stb for internet.

From what i have heard if you have TV from them you have to do coax, because without the modem on coax the ondemand stuff for the tv doesn't work.

I know, but I will still have the dumb actiontec router connected. There are ways to do it, but they do not address the "how will it connect to TV" issues. I tried bridging the router, but I lose VOD stuff.

Check out this forum.
I have fios tv, internet and telephone.
Regular phone wire is run from the ont to phones.
Coax is run from the ont to a splitter
From splitter coax is run to your set top box.
From splitter coax is run to the Actiontec router. From Actiontec outer network cable to your computer or use wireless.

If I remember there are ways to bridge the router and still keep the vod and img info.
Check this link. Lots of good info in this forum.

Pghpooh

i dont understand why you cant bridge on the actiontec. i just plugged it into a port on the router (not using wireless for bridging) and set it up in the software of the second router to bridge to the other router. I only use it for my xbox360. I would guess its the same way if you use it for wireless.

Bridging the actiontec makes you lose VOD, unless you do DHCP relay....

just bridging an access point still makes you use the actiontec, which dies when you have someone doing torrents and someone gaming at the same time.

Correct, all of the STBs will still need to be connected to the ActionTec router via coax, but you can hook up your own router as the "edge device" and have your ActionTec act as a bridging device and hang off of that.

He is right. You can still have your data coming over ethernet into a 3rd party router then hook up the actiontec's wan port into your 3rd party router's LAN and hook the STB's to the coax part. Voila, all done.
