Finishing a basement ceiling. Need options.

I need to finish my basement ceiling which is current on drywall with no plaster done.

What are my options if i I don't want to have to plaster and sand the drywall? I was thinking stucco, but I heard you need to apply that with a primer already on or it won't stick.

What about a drop ceiling? Makes it easier to string cable later on if you decide to wire the house with CAT-5. 🙂

Ceiling tile could be an option.

When my house was built couple years ago the guys used some concoction of drywall mud (spackling) and paint and simply stamped a random pattern on the ceiling with a special brush. No further work was needed.

Ceiling is to low for ceiling tile. 🙁

How so?

Ceiling tile only needs 1x2 strip backing...that's 3/4 inch plus the thickness of the tile.

Even less if you use the metal rails (easier install than wood anyway and you don't even need a staple gun).

Who uses Cat5? Cat5e and Cat6 support 10/100/1000 while Cat5 is only 10/100 😉
