So while I'm waiting on the final motherboard for my new home vSAN cluster (arriving tonight) I was able to spend some time doing punch downs and finishing the wire management of my new rack.

Green = IPMI
Blue = Server 1Gb NICs (2 per server)
Orange = Power management (UPS and PDU)
Yellow = Uplink to small netgear swtich by desk
Black = LAN/WAN uplinks to firewall

Two black cables at far right of switch are 10Gb DAC Twinax cables going to servers (will be adding a 3rd one this last motherboard is installed).

If only it were that easy in a DC.

Funny as I've recently been arguing against the color specific thing.

I'll be labeling each cable as well with the cable tie labels but the color coding just helps me remember different groupings.

Nice! I thought of going colour coded for my server room but issue is having to have enough of each colour in stock. It's a much cleaner cabling job than what I have though.

I actually did redo my cabling at one point when I built the cable management ducts around my server rack (the pre-bought ones are ridiculously expensive) but I'm not happy with how it turned out so I'll probably redo it at some point. Might change the patch panel for a lower profile one too and move the switches up. Originally I had small dlink switches so they were sitting on the shelf below the patch panel.

It used to be MUCH worse though:

Yes, that is totally an AC 120v outlet just hanging there. lol.
