Got up at 4:30 and just finished.

Got a little cash back this year - first time in a while.

I love turbo tax, but damn, 75 bucks this year?

Just glad its over. Now to get ready for work.

Any other procrastinators out there?

The best part about mine: At the end of it, there were convenient links to update Facebook and Twitter with "I just finished my taxes!"D:

Oddly enough, here we are, doing the same thing, just using a different venue.:awe:

Last year my refund was $2500....

This year, my refund is ****drum roll**** $350.

What changed in terms of salary? Nothing. I spent 2 hours last night just going over my federal return.

As part of the stimulus plan, withholding rates were changed so you'd see more $$ in your paychecks. Tax rates were not changed, so you still owe the money at the end of the year.

Really....after the whole stimulus thing, I only saw an increase of $8 on my paycheck. What a load crap....

I could be wrong on my statement, but it's what I was told by a couple of people and I always believe what I hear 😀

Oh...did you hear....despite what your taxes say...you owe an additional tax. Everyone must send the absolute value of 10% of their return via paypal to Gibson486.

I have been paying for the last 3-4 years due to some side income but this year I am getting some money back. Finally!

No... there was a tax credit, so you would not have to pay the money back at the end of the year.

However they changed the withholding tables for married people so each (working) person got the full $800 instead of $400 each. I don't know why they did that - perhaps most families only have one person working, or perhaps they felt the families with one person working really needed their tax credit sooner. Either way, the result was that families with two people working had their withholdings reduced by a total of $1600, but the tax credit was only $800 (for a family), so you'd have to pay $800 back.

i broke down and went to an honest to god tax professional. got $3400 back. 😀

this is after not paying federal taxes out of my check for 7 months of the year. dont think i could have done that using turbo tax.

How many times do I need to say this: If you are owed a refund, you do not have to file today. Hell, you don't have to file at all. You may miss out on your refund, but my point is don't sweat it if you are owed.

Second: Use TaxAct, it's only $12.95 for the premium edition.

sigh......again, another thing I preach: It's better to owe than to be owed when it comes to taxes.

How many times do I need to say this: If you are owed a refund, you technically do not have to file today. Hell, you don't have to file at all.

SO I could have had more days to check why the govt will not give me more money? 🙁

I ended up owing over $3k this year... damn consulting work on the side! Oh well, I've adjusted my withholding this year so it doesn't sting so much next year.

Did mine in Feb as well. I owe the state $700 and I'm getting $8800 back federal, 8k of it is from buying a house.

I opened a statefarm online banking account few yrs ago just to get cheap turbotax. It used to be free for all versions, but I paid $20 for the home and business version this yr, which is normally $99.95. I deposited $100, and I think I have $103 in that account right now, but probably saved well over $200 already.

Don't you have to (at least) file or send form 4868 to the IRS for 6 months extension? I just did send that form to the IRS this morning.

TaxAct, is it as good as TurboTax and TaxCut? You know the old saying "you get what you pay for". I am a bit leery.

I'm getting a nice refund this year, but that is only because I did some major catch-up on contributions to my retirement account in 2009.

Unfortunately, my wife has decided that that money is going into home renovations, so I may not get my new laptop until my shareholder bonus / dividend comes through in May.

getting around $2,000 back which is nice, also new considering I didn't even file the last two years.

It's nice not having state income tax.
