Would like to get some decent speakers for my daughter's rig. Definitely do not need recording studio quality but also want something better than the cheapo-generics that I use. I think she would like a 5.1 set-up. Would like to stay under $100 if possible, but am flexible if there is an amazing deal on something that is just a tiny bit more $$ than that.
Can you recommend a set of speakers that provides good bang for the buck?
Primary use will be music.
She will also use them for some limited gaming.
And it is possible that she will watch a movie or two (but this would be infrequent).

System that they will be used with:

If primary use is for listening to music, you'd be better off with a 2.1 set. Klipsch makes some good ones, but not sure on their price. The Logitech Z2300 is good too.

you should be able to grab a logitech x-540 5.1 system for around 70cad / usd if you really want a 5.1 set. i have not used the x-540's so i cannot comment on them personally.

I have a 5.1 Gigaworks set (the good ones, back when they were rebadged Cambridge). If I could go back I'd get a quality 2.1 set, probably Klipsch Pro-Media Ultras. I think surround sound is ridiculously overrated, and I game and watch movies quite a bit using the 5.1 set. YMMV.
