Over the last few weeks parts have been coming in, whether it was from Christmas presents and giftcards, but so far I have acquired the following pieces:
(using newegg.com to link the items for product info)

Case:
Antec Ninehundred

Hard drive(s):
WD External 250GB Dual Option Backup (not as sexy as a My Book Pro but oh well)
Seagate 400GB Ultra ATA/100 7200.10 (now get this... the box says it is a ST3400632A-RK, thats a 7200.8 Retail Kit, but I ordered and got a ST3400620A, 7200.10 Retail Kit hard drive... which to believe the label on the actual drive or the box... hmmm)

Sound card:
Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro

Display:
Dell 2405 FPW 24" Widescreen - proud owner for last 1.5 years but sad to have 1 dead pixel! NOoooo

Mobo:
CPU:
GPU:
PSU:
DVD:
RAM:

So back to the original question:
What would you fill the rest of the machine with? I do game, photo and movie edit as a hobby, and use it to watch DVDs... and a spending budget of I would say $700-1100 USD.
Time is sort of irrelevant, I am a patient fella and expect to get this rig running around late Feb-Mar '07.

Mobo I was thinking of the nForce 650i (when available) series.
CPU I was thinking E6400 or E6320 (will decide when more data becomes readily available)
GPU I was thinking 7950GT or 8800 GTS or 8800 GTX, not sure how much of a huge difference and need I will have for that much muscle. I use to know of that website that compared GPUs but, alas, I have lost the address. I am sure I will hunt it down on google later.
PSU I was thinking of a few, but then I remembered I got the case with a bottom PSU housing unit... PSU's with nice long cables will be more welcomed so that narrows my selection down a little.
DVD isn't too hard. I am sure any NEC or BenQ will do.
RAM I was thinking of OCZ mostly but I need some more researching to do I thinks.

Any suggestions is more than welcomed.

You can find a reasonably comprehensive list of GPUs and benchmarks all in one place here.

Hope it helps with the video portion, at least.
