Hi all -

My rig is several years old, and it's starting to show its age. (P4 2.66GHz/2GB DDR400/NVIDIA 4200 AGP) It's mainly used for surfing, e-mail, occasional YouTube & slideshow creation/encoding. Now I doubt I'd be able to reuse any of the existing parts, so I've been picking up pieces here and there. Help me finish it off, keeping in mind that I've had my existing machine for years, and that it sees little to no gaming at all - hopefully that would keep the budget down for the remaining parts. Please check out what I have so far, and help me finish my list and start building!

Case: Antec 300
PSU: ThermalTake PurePower 430W
RAM: 2X 2GB Corsair DDR2-800
Optical: LG 22x SATA DVD/CD burner
Storage: Hitachi 1TB SATA, Seagate 320GB

(Also have these parts lying around if any of them are serviceable)
CPU: Athlon 64 3700+
Mobo: Abit AN8-SLI
GPU: BFG GeForce 7800GT OC

I believe I only need a mobo/CPU, so I'd like to keep it around $100, but could stretch to $150 if you can convince me. I'm in the US, I don't have any brand preference, nor do I intend to OC the system. I'm itching to start building now so help me out... thanks!

With no gaming and no overclocking, a good dual core and a decent motherboard with integrated graphics is all that you need. It might be a bit out of your budget, but look into an AMD 785G board with an Athlon II X2 processor.

If you want to go cheap, look into e3200. Any dual core will be a big improvement for you and if it's not fast enough out of the box, many people find it a simple change of fsb to overclock it by as much as 1ghz at stock voltage.

Thanks for the reply!

How's this combo, and is the Egg the best place to get these things?
GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128394
AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103681

Almost to the edge of my limit @ $147 shipped, but if this is the best option for me, I'd take it - thoughts?
