Fingerprint Key

I was just looking at the Volvo Concept Car thing and it has that fingerprint key technology, and I thought, if you somehow damaged your finger skin with some sort of acidic substance or something, would you not be able to open your car?

Well they'd probably have a backup key in case they got some acid on their fingers ..

It's been tried. No matter what extremes you go to, you cannot make your fingerprints unrecognizable.

The only way this could fail would be if you lost all ten digits permanently. In which case, you probably wouldn't be driving much.

Old person, my grandmother pretty much don't have finger prints on her hands that are recognizable. Reason for that is she did allot of manual labor when she was in her early 20s and before that.

What are the chances of that happening?

And if someone DID happen to get into the fantastic scenario you propose, they would probably have a key laying around, and when the skin grew back, the fingerprints would remain.

You like the X-files too? 😀

There is most likely a backup system in case the car's electrical system is out for some reason, rendering the scanner inoperable. Or in other words, a key.
