Finding the right pc

I've been searching for some time now, and I haven't been able to come to a final decision. Finding the right PC for my needs. I level build and design so I use lots of big software like 3ds max, and adobe software. My current pc is too old and slow, and encounters lots of random freezes, takes like 2 minutes just to boot the splash screen. Irritating.

My first step was to try and find the best PC out there, but that didn't boat out to well. My budget is around....450 no lie. I'll say maximum $500.

Any tips to finding a well stable modern PC will be great. Thanks.

Booting is largely a function of I/O speed. Maybe get an SSD for your current PC and fix it up a bit (reload software)?

Building is going to be difficult at that price due to the cost of the OS.

Tell us what you have now... it might be possible to just upgrade what you have and go from there.

I currently have a fell insprion 531 desktop PC with 4 gbs of ram. Processor 2.30 ghz, recently "upgraded" not really and upgrade, the graphics card to a AMD raedoen 5450 with 1 GB of memory and I believe a speed of 400 mhz which (after finding out here) is very very very slow. And it really is. I thought it was fast and great when I got it at micro center in Denver for around $30 the guy told me it was good and fast and that came with one hdmi port. Blah blah, yeah right
I currently don't need a new monitor, I recently got a new one. It's a benq 1080p model rl something. It's 24" and has a 1ms response time. And some other major features I can't remember at the moment. It looks really great to me.

Are there any pcs equipped with SS drives, and a fast gpu graphics card? I always think that's what I need to be searching for.

The HD5450 isn't much of a graphics card, I had a 6450 in my HTPC for a while and while it streamed video well enough, it couldn't handle anything graphically challenging.

The problem with your Dell is to replace one thing, you would have to change a few other things. But with a MicroCenter nearby, you can easily get another Dell prebuilt for ~$400 with a modern CPU (say, an i3.) Upgrade that HDD to an SSD and you are on your way.

Does the op uses 3dsmax as a hobby? Or professionally? It's hard to believe you can get any work done with just 4 Gb of ram, and a non-Quattro or FirePro card.

If you want to do serious 3D modeling, then your budget of $500 is not realistic.

This sounds like a plan, I'll do this. What type of solid state drive should I get? Or are they all the same? not looking to spend a fortune on a PC, it is not all that serious.
I use 3ds max professionally and I've done alot with 4 gbs of ram. You'd be surprise what can do with limited resources and I'll just have some put the SS drive inside for me.

Well, in any event, consider 8GB RAM as an option, even if you have to buy it separately and put it in yourself. We're talking $40, here...

I would get a minimum of a ~120GB SSD, preferably a ~240GB. I like Crucial and Intel, but there are probably less expensive ones like SanDisk and maybe Samsung. You do not need a 'Pro' level drive, a Crucial BX200, Samsung 850 Evo, SanDisk Ultra II, et al will work fine.
