I was searching on a webpage and found a JAVA script i found kinda cool...i passed it along to someone and they showed me the website they probably got it from, which gives it out for free, as long as the code with his credit is not altered.

well i look at the source and it is the EXACT SAME code for the 2, only with the line with the creaters name deleted and information about the people who run the website added at the bottom

made me pissed off...gonna write the guys an email today, since i am losely associated and let them know that it is stolen code....

Sheesh, all they have to do is change the name of a few functions. But why even care? It isn't your site, you are not getting ripped off, and it isn't your code! I know your looking after a programmers rights of free enterprise, just look how well Microsoft did ripping off other peoples code.

Now I'm sure in high school you were the perfect student who never used one paragraph from a book word-for-word verbatim.

Please get over little vendetta's such as these and let web designers....design. The designers of that site well soon one day learn how to write their own code. Let them breathe.

whatever man...

they have a specific webpage dedicated to promoting this JAVA script but put their names instead of the designers without changing anything in the code...

they arent designing a webpage, they are claiming responibility for code that soemone else wrote

Actually no. I'm one of them who make his own code but would not care if someone copied it. Know why? Because the code I written was tried and coded 100 times over before I even typed one key into notepad. I think it is very egotistical of a designer to 'copyright' a simple DHTML or Java Script.

When they write in those patent "Please do not Remove Credits", all it is is a formality anyway. Anybody who knows one lick about the internet knows the average user does not care about how a function of the page works or how it was coded, just as long as it works. It's more about bragging rights then anything else. Most of them put credit on their scripts just of a showing of self-respect.

Any real designer will tell you they would not give two shits about how someone copies a simple script. Which is why I think MrDingle is wasting his time.
