i'm experiencing something odd with my counter strike or steam in general. i have CS 1.6, CZ, and CS:Source, and when i try to find a server it keeps resulting in high pings, but once i get into the server, it isnt as bad. what could be the problem here?
for example, i had my command prompt running and i was pinging yahoo.com, i was getting an avg ping of about 60ms. however the second i click on "find server" my ping either sky rockets, or i get request timeout, and usually the results from the servers are up in the 250+. Moreover, when i decide to go into some of the servers that are about 200, my ping turns out to be 100 (sometimes less) once im inside the server. so apparently i have a problem with pinging servers when looking for them, is there something i can do by tweaking the configuration on steam setting? and does anybody know of a good program that helps you find servers, because i think it's most likely steam that's causing the problem.
i am on wireless btw 802.11g and the router is about 30 ft away from my comp, but nonetheless, the ping is consistent at around 60 until i try to find servers on steam.
