Finding out temps via infrared reader...

I'm trying to figure out temps for my video card which is outfitted with the Zalman ZMD80D-HP http://www.zalman.co.kr/upload/product/zm80d_hp_c.jpg
And I was wondering if the best way to measure the core temps would be to measure the temps of the heat pipes instead of the Heat sinks. Also, would the temp of the heat pipes be different from the actual temp of the video card?

I believe you would need to measure then actual chips temperature.....

Cinsidering that problems arise from the overheating of the GPU and not that of the HSF, I'd recommend you to try and get a measure of the chip.
