A client of ours needs to change the IP of their nameservers but they can't without the NIC handle for the nameservers... anyone have any clues on how to find out the NIC handles for nameservers?

I don't think they have NIC handles for nameservers. If all you need to do is change the IP address for a nameserver, just submit a host modification form. You just need to enter host name and new IP address. I've done that many times.

look at the domain with whois at the verisign site, you'll see the contacts and their nic handles there.

without the appropriate person making the change you'll be sol.

It's not the contacts NIC handle I need though... it is the Host NIC handle!

Mucman has a point, but VeriSign recently took away a lot of the functionality of the whois database. For instance, at work we have an DNS server [209.12.9.10]. Using the WHOIS utility provided by network solutions, we used to be able to query for "HOST 209.12.9.10" and it would return all the info about our DNS server, including the DNS server's NIC handle [ours was something like HPI-NS6535], but that is no longer the case -- can't query the whois db to find out what a host's/server's handle is.

Your best bet is to try and contact Network Solutions directly @ 1-888-642-9675, or try submitting the form without a handle.

I hate VeriSign/Network Solutions.
