Finding out components of laptop if they are unkown

I have a laptop here, that I don't remember what certain components in it are. I need to find out firstly what sound card is in there, and the ATI Mobile Radeon 9700 can't use Catalyst drivers because it's not officially supported by ATI. I need this information to find out what drivers I need.

The laptop is basically a no-name laptop, so that also an issue.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I hate how you get forced into verifying OEM status for video drivers and if you don't have the original OS installed, you're screwed.

Anyway, there's a tool that can mod the latest Catalyst drivers to detect and install for mobile chipsets.

Yea, lspci is a life safer. I can't believe MS doesn't include something similar in Windows by now.

Forgot to mention that this was a Windows box.

Well, we figured out that the laptop manufacturer did have a website, so we visited and got the according drivers.

Belarc did work somewhat, but it missed out some components: the sound card, and one more thing. It's all ok now though, because I go the drivers from the website.

Also: ATI's driver didn't work, even the ones from the manufacturer's website, so I used the modtool, and it works now.

That doesn't stop you from running a LiveCD.
