finding details about motherboard chipset....

hey guys, just installed linux, and in order to configure my ethernet card, I need to know what kind of nic I have..... I have a compaq motherboard (yeah.... I know ) and it has a nForce 420 chipset on it. anyway I can find the details on the on board NIC? thanks guys,

Yup goto the manufacturer's (chipset or mobo) site and read and/or read some reviews of the chipset in general or some reviews of the specific mobo.
