Morning ATOT,

I was curious to see what questions you all have asked when trying to find a pediatrician. We are currently in the process of doing so even though she is due on Valentine's day. Any recommended questions you folks asked?

- from gynocologist
- from delivery hospital
- from delivery room nurses
- from family doctor

We have just asked the above whom they would recommend.

Lucky, we only had two sets of choices (1 & 2) used same and (3 & 4) used the same.

Well, I have two special needs kids and I can't honestly say they have never needed a pediatrician. We do have a general pediatrician that we use to refer us to any specialist that we decide are needed. I would rate the willingness to make referrals as high on my list.

Technical questions are not going to filter them out.
You do nto have enought special knowledge to evaluate their answers.

You need to look at their personality and how compfortable you and other people feel arouind them.

We just went with the recommendaion of the family MD for #3,4

My pediatrician was awesome. He said he could tell what's wrong with me by tasting my dong. If you want, I'll find his number for you.

There really aren't any good questions you can ask that I can think of. The only real way of telling is by actually seeing the doctor with the kids...how they relate, how they get the kids to cooperate, etc.

All that is hard to find out on your own so the best thing to do would be to casually bring it up in conversations with friends and neighbors. We were searching around for a pediatrician and my wife's OB recommended one and she brought it up in conversation with other parent's in the neighborhood who all highly recommended the same doctor. We've been extremely happy with them and have even brought over other friends to this pediatrician because they were unhappy with their doctors.

Also, it might be worth looking at the availability of appointments.

We did the same thing. We also asked many of the hospital nurses that took care of my wife and newborn. Most were very honest and told us who was good and who wasn't...

Good luck
