Finding a modeling agency?

I am attempting to get into modeling, and have been looking at possible modeling agencies. However, I have no clue what I am doing or what to send them. A lot of modeling agencies have submissions but no where do they tell you what to send them.

What am I to do? Do I send pictars of myself to them? I think that's what they want, but I don't know, they don't tell me anything...

Maybe I should take a trip down to NY and see what's up?

I don't think asking ATOT is the best choice, but I don't know who else to ask. Hopefully someone has help (or connections 😛) to find me an agency!

Thank you!

I can't believe you posted this... here....

i see a 100+ reply thread coming up 🙂

Only if pics are posted.

EDIT: Well now that I think about it even if there were no pics posted there would still be 100+ posts begging for pics...

Aunix - I mean no disrespect when I say this whatsoever (although it may come off that way) - but aren't you a rail thin 105lbs, like 5'8"ish? For the most part it takes a muscular proportioned body for males to get into modeling. If you can make it then all the power in the world to you bud, but being super skinny is only really good if you're a woman.

Here, I'll try to be helpful:

If you don't look like one of the guys on an Abercrombie poster, stop now. Just like female models, most male models need to be ridiculously good looking and in the 99th percentile of physical fitness.

First, you'll need headshots. Find a photographer who specializes in those, and get them done. Should cost you between $50-300 depending on the quality of the photog and how well you know him/her.

Second, find a manager or an agency. A manager will do all the grunt work of submitting headshots and pimping your picture to people who can get you work. Keep in mind that most modeling agencies are scams. If they charge you money up front, run.

Third, find a day job. You will very likely be waiting a LONG time between gigs, if you ever get any. Also, if you do get an assignment you will not be paid nearly as much as you'd like to think. You can probably make more just by being a very good looking, friendly waiter at a midscale restaurant.

Good luck,

Most modeling agencies don't give a flying fvck if you just put a submission in. Could be different in NY.

I've been approached probably 4 or 5 times on different occasions by agents from modeling agencies here in DFW. They all wanted me to come down and talk to them and whatever else. What they don't tell you is that you usually have to drop a nice chunk of change ($600-$1000) for them to get a slew of pictures taken of you so that they can market you for whatever contracts they are currnetly working on. I turned them down when they wanted the $$.

Some things that might help - agencies like tall guys with a somewhat lean cut. Short guys and fat bastards get screwed.

Anyways, thats my experience. 🙂

You're so handsome James. Soooooo dreamy 😉 😉

But in all seriousness, they always have newsbits on Channel 4 about those so called modeling agencies. No legit agency will ever ask you to put money down or pay the agency themselves. The legit good ones will make their money off you in the long run with contracts with whomever they contract out to.

I guess I'll start by clearing a few things up:

Yes I am a guy, albeit my avatar is the asian woman. As well, I am 5'8" and 105lbs. I am skinny. However, I don't think becoming a model is a long-shot, but my small stature is definitely going to be a big hurdle.

I do have a very well-toned and proportional body (I am a runner), however my arms aren't exactly muscular. I've been working on them, however given my size, it is quite hard to get them up to par. Though I am quite proud of my abs. 😀

Thanks to everyone who posted positive/helping comments. And to those who think I can't do it, just know I wouldn't waste my time and money on something if I didn't think I had a chance...

I am looking to spend around $150-200 for head shots. I don't think finding someone will be a problem.

Finding a manager might be difficult. I do live in Maine...

And I do have a job working in a doctor's office, so I am bringing in some cash 😀

Thanks!
