Find wireless networks instantly!

Wi-Finder

Your life on the road just got a lot easier. With the first and only WiFi detector on the market today, you no longer need to cross your fingers as you wait for your notebook to boot up. Just press a button and the Kensington WiFi Finder lets you know if your location is "hot"...instantly. No software or computer needed. What could be easier?

Detects 802.11b and most 802.11b/g signals from up to 200 feet away

No software or computer required

Hah - no thanks - whats the point in finding out if your in a hot spot if you dont have a computer/pda to use it?
To me, this is just another wasteful piece of technology for someone to carry around.

$30 isnt too bad though.

it's a GOOD idea for a product and i'll probably buy one.

So you know your place is "hot" but you don't have any device that you could use to use the network? How smart.

how do you know i don't have a device?

i have a laptop that is almost always with me, why should i power up my laptop just to find out whethor or not i'm in a hot spot? why waste the battery life, it's just soo much easier to pull out this device and push the button.

is that difficult to comprehend?

actually true but you also might have a car-adapter for your notebook if you go war-driving. Is that so difficult to comprehend? You always sound so defensive.

I like the idea of modding it into a dash-mounted device. Always on if the car's on. Never think about it... 😛

Dell and PCMall have it for $20 too... Hmmm...

tech tv's fresh gear reviewed it gave it a very bad rating..

apparently it only tells you that there is a signal, not if its accessable or locked by wep or whatever.

On top you still will need to boot up to connect if it finds one.. i rather use my laptop (or what's left of it)

Sigh... if only my laptop battery life was more than 1.5 hours... public wireless would be beneficial then.

If you ask me, it does EXACTLY what it's supposed to do. it checks to see if there is a WAP nearby. the rest of it is up to you and the laptop.

Ok, so it doesn't tell you if it is wep or not? so what.

if it told you that it was wep, then the next complaint would be it doesn't tell you if it is DHCP or not, so what, if it does

then the next complaint would be, it doesn't tell you how many IP addresses the wap allows. SO

next.

my point is, the more functions you add the more it costs and at some point it becomes ridiculous.

The fact that it doesn't tell you if it is wep or not means that you between 20% to 40% of the time it notifies you of a WAP presence you will not be able to take advantage of it because you CHOOSE not to overpower someones WEP settings.

BUT it still has already SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the number of times you have to boot up your Laptop to see whethor or not a WAP is even available.

if you ask me, i'd say they are REALLY nitpicking on that one.

If i had a palm, i'd agree with you. but since i don't have one and don't desire one, i have a choice to pay $30.00 for this device or buy a palm. hmmm not much of a decision.
