i just bought this board for a linux machine:

I would recommend just grabbing a 2x4GB DDR3-1333 or DDR3-1600 GSkill kit, that is 1.5v and 9-9-9-24 or -28 timings. I like Ripjaws, Ripjaws X, Ares, and Sniper.

That kit was front-and-center when you go to Memory at Newegg. Seems cheap enough, standard timings / voltage. If I had the money, I would grab a couple of kits of those.

ripjaws 1600 will work with any cpu and the board i referenced above?

In theory, at least, it should work fine. Personally, Gskill is my go-to memory, and this is pretty standard stuff, should work in virtually any board.

Yep memory used to be a LOT cheaper. I hope for the day of $35 and less 8GB kits from back when I built my sandy bridge rig.
