I was following this thread, and suddenly last night, my wife said, "I found a 40 (or 42?) inch Samsung on Amazon for $298, free 2 day shipping with prime. Amazon works well with my Chase card, so I simply used my rewards points to pay for it. :) But, thought that was a decent price for the Samsung, especially with free shipping.

We got a "40 RCA to replace the 2-yr old Toshiba that had an explosion of pixels die, decent picture, horrific sound. I think we paid $275@BB B+M but I spent another $60 for the 5yr replacement warranty.

Woah, didn't check this thread much at first, must have been a slow start.

Thanks for the replies guys. My brother and I have been eyeballing a couple deals at the local Wallyworld lately. Seems like 40-42" for $250 is about the norm. Sure, you can go a little bigger for a similar price but who knows how long those Sansui Seiki Sucki whatever they are will last.

I guess it all comes down to this: they are using, and have been since I lived there as a kid, some form of 27" tube TV so even going to a 40" will be a huge upgrade for them. Anybody have a Sceptre TV and like it?

I'm not going to help you, but just wanted to commend you for not using the phrase 'on the cheap' in your thread title.
Bless you my friend.
