i've been using a speedstream 2602 2-port w/ no problems for the last few months. i needed to upgrade to a 4-port so i bought one of the linksys units yesterday. installed it and configured it per the instructions. no internet connection. called my isp and they reminded me about needing to change the mac address registered w/ them. made sense so i gave them the router mac (although, i REALLY didn't remember switching mac adresses before when i switched from the line connection going straight to my pc to going into the speedstream router). after changing mac addresses, still no connection. they told me to contact linksys. spent a couple hours w/ linksys trouble shooting it. came to the conclusion that the router was fine. said to tell my isp that we were able to get the wan ip and dns thru the router, but when we tried a direct connection to the pc we were not able to obtain a valid ip and it wouldn't renew it either. also, thru the router we were not able to ping the dns. called my isp, verified mac adress of the router. then they had me register the pc mac and try the direct connection. direct connection worked. isp sd that the router might not be compatible w/ their service. hung up w/ them and tried the speedstream router. it worked. then i re-hooked up the linksys router. it worked, too!

all this and my pc's mac adress is the one that's registered. i guess i was right in my assumptiong that i didn't switch mac addresses before when i first went w/ the speedstream. i don't get it. any ideas what happened?

thanks... Deo
