*** Warning! SPOILERS! ***

Finally saw Kick-ass the other night on pay-per-view in HD. I wasn't expecting it to be great. Based on the trailer I figured it would be another run of the mill piece of Hollywood trash.

HOLY SH** was I wrong. As the movie progressed from a "what-if" scenario that attempted to answer the question of "what would happen if people decided to act like a super hero for real?" to a genuine superhero film I was blown away.

The film wasn't all that intellectual but, if you take it for what it is - fantasy, escapism, action, adrenaline rush - it rocked. (I noticed Roger Ebert gave it 1 star - heh.)

It had elements of
Spiderman,Daredevil - average Peter Parker type with a hidden alter-ego along with Kingpin type criminals.
Batman, the Punisher - Big Daddy
Pint-sized Elektra - Hit Girl
Matrix - Hit Girl fight scene near the end.

The music within the film was spot-on. Nicholas Cage was perfect in it.

Easily the best film I've seen all year.

The problem with Kick-ass the movie is its too happy of an ending. I much preferred the more tragic ending of the comic.

I didn't even know there was a graphic novel of this story that pre-dated the movie. I'll have to check it out.

Was it really a happy ending though? I mean red myst is clearly going to be even more evil now.

Also the whole him getting laid to that girl (forgot her name) is different on the novel too.
in the novel after he tells her hes not gay she stops talking to him and later on sends him text pic or something of her giving some dude a bj iirc...

Yeah really. It was okay at best. Solid C.

I didn't say it was a bad movie cus it's not terrible and I enjoyed it but if someone thinks this is the best movie all year then they need to watch more movies.

I wasn't implying anything else. It was a C movie and yes if he thought that was the best movie all year, he is not seeing many movies at all.

Guilty as charged. Maybe part of the reason it struck me as being so good was the surprise factor that it wasn't the garbage I expected. Still a great movie.

Recommend some 2010 films that (in your opinion) are better than Kick-ass. I'll add 'em to my list.

This is why you should never watch trailers. IMDB forum is full of people complaining about how the trailer made them think it was a different kind of movie. I had no idea what the movie was about going into it, I just knew it was supposed to be good, and it turned out to be excellent. Trailers leave you with too many ideas as to what is going to happen and set you up to be disappointed.

I give it 8/10. I think the rescue scene is easily one of the best scenes in action movie history.

Yup trailers suck. They trick you into thinking M Night Shyamalan movies might actually be good.

Now that I think about it. This kind of reminded me of Watchmen in the way it attempted to portray what things might be like if superheroes existed in our world.

I go to the movies a lot. I mean a lot. So far this year I have seen 30. Out of all the movies 5 stood out to me.

Not in any particluar order

The Crazies
The Karate Kid
The Town
Inception
Salt

I believe The Town is the best movie this year, just squeaking by Inception. But all 5 of those movies were well acted and The Crazies and The Karate Kid were just big surprises because they were just very likeable. There have been a few other good ones..

Book of Eli
Prince of Persia (best sexually and foul language clean movie I have seen in quite some time)
Robin Hood
Knight and Day

The worst was Legion. Man that film looked so good, what a pile of doo doo. Don't even watch this film unless its on TNT, lol.

Here is a big tip. Next week Let Me In comes out. It is a remake of Let the Right One In. One of the best vampire movies of all time. If the remake is as good it will definately be a movie to see on the big screen.

Thanks! The crazies and the Town looked like "B" movies from the trailers. Since you liked it I'll give them a chance. Inception's also on my must-see list when it hits PPV.

Thanks!
