yep, the old mobo sort of died when I tryed to put 3 x 256 sdram so I had to go and buy new one,
price wise I picked gigabyte's Ga-7vtxe for 99$ and one stick of 256 mb ddr ram (samsung but sandra says micron, weird)
now, I have gf3 (280/580) and 1.4 tbird, and to tell you the truth I can't notice any difference :>
the memory scores in sandra are doubled though, 800/1000 (or with the 2001 pro patch b 1600/1600 something)

I can't seem to overclock much since the board doesn't have multiplyer adjustments and the max I can take the FSB without having instability issues is 138 mhz :<

I don't think it is the ram because I tryed 2 sticks of ram, the samsung and one kingmax tiny bga (I decided to keep the samsung) and the same result
the ram works at 4x interleave and 1T setting though.

from PCI devices I have: sblive! oem value, tv tuner zoltrix and ess 56k modem

One thing I noticed is that I cant go over 4.4 k in download speeds with this modem (and I tryed another one also) and I used to get 5.5 with the same modem and the ABIT kt7Raid.
I use Win98se, all the patches, newest via 4in1 etc....

but this is very good board for the price, 99$, I remember paying 160$ for the abit kt7r 11 months ago.

pity my modem is slow and I cant go over 138 mhz fsb

Sounds like maybe you got a KT266 and not a KT266A, or this is just a coincidence. The KT266 based boards had trouble going over 138MHz FSB because of some problems with USB. However, the speed increase that you get shouldn't be too much, especially not in games. I might be like 5%-20%, in the range. It just really starts to get noticeable.

I can't push my AK31A over about 138 either. My 1.4 ran just fine at 150+ on my IWill KK266+R. I don't know...maybe my Enermax 330W PS isn't enough :Q

My Shuttle AK31A hits 145mhz, not stable though. It's like a rock at 140mhz. Damn good motherboard for the price.

you guys think that the HDD holds things down ?
hmmm I am not sure, I think it's the mobo, because the same thing happens on my cousins config and he doesn't have the same hdd as me

<< What does a hard dirve have to do with FSB? >>

when you raise fsb, it raises PCI bus

when you are at 133fsb, you are at 33Mhz via a 1/4 divider. Every 4 fsb you raise it, pci goes up 1

some HDDs(or controllers/southbridges) can't handle the higher bus, hence the wall some people hit
