Finally: Update on my daughters health

Finally, I have the time to give you all an update on my daughters health. Wanted to take some time, because I wanted to explain it in the proper way. It is not something you can type like an ordinary message. 😉 Had to check on all the correct English words for all the body parts. 😉

As most of you know, last week she had a medical checkup on her urinal system. The doctor expected some malfunction of one of the valves, that prevents urine to flow back from the bladder to her kidney. Well, that is the case, but there is more.

Normally, a person has two kidneys with two ureters leading to the bladder. Now, Caitlin has something different. On one side everything is as it should be, so one kidney, renal pelvis and one ureter leading to the bladder.
On the other side, there is something strange. It almost never happens. Even the radiologist had never seen it, only heard of it.

The other kidney had two renal pelvisses and two ureters leading to the bladder. This kidney is also larger than the other one, probably because it is producing more urine than normal. You can say she has two kidneys in one. This is also a possible cause for the valve on that side, since the volume is more than it can handle.

Now, there are a few possibilities, that I can imagine:
  • the valve on the 'faulty' side will be enforced, so it will be able to handle the flow of urine. That's were prolly the solution, DMcOwen made me aware off, might be an option.
  • she has to stay on antibiotics for a long time, more than a year, and leave everything as it is. With the medicine, the bacteria won't have a chance of popping up again, causing her to have a urinal infection. Not a good option, since she might become resistant to antibiotics with 4 years old
  • the 'second' ureter will be closed, but then the second renal pelvis has to be removed also. Otherwise, urine will still be collected there, with no place to go
  • the 'faulty' kidney has to be removed completely. Not a good option, since she is only 4 years old.

Tomorrow, we're having a talk with the examining doctor. Then we prolly know a bit more. Hopefully. 😀

I can tell you, it does hurt, seeing a little girl being ill, knowing what is happening to her and unable to explain it to her because of her age. We try to do it as good as we can, but in her eyes you can read confusion and misunderstanding. 🙁

Whenever I know more, I'll update again. 😉

So sad that a child has to be put through something like this. I'm sure it's hell on you and your family, Peter. You're all in my thoughts.

Best wishes to your Daughter, you and your family and what everyone one else has said.:sun:

🙂

We will pray for your daughter's complete recovery and for your strength to stay with you in this trying time 🙁

That might be the best option if a kidney donor can be found(which is somewhat rare but not impossible), then she could have 2 working kidneys. Either way my wife and I will pray for your family.

The Kidney is not bad or having a problem, no reason to take out a perfectly fine working organ.

There is a very short non-invasive proceedure that is almost not even a surgery since they only have to make a small cut and do the proceedure from the outside with a probe with a Camera mounted on it. They do this proceedure here in Atlanta where they put a new valve in made from Natural material that has had a better than 90% permanent cure rate.

That is the "enforced" Peter is talking about above. The Doctors over there are learning about it now after I told Peter about it. May be interesting to see if Medical Team from here in Atlanta goes over there and shows the Doctors over there how to do the proceedure or if Peter and his daughter comes here along with Doctors from over there to learn about it here.
