Semi-related note: I just went to Target and in the electronics section, they have a cooler full of Monster Energy drinks next to the video games. It's the only food item on the entire floor. They sure know how to typecast their target audience.

Who has been "hyping" Baja Blast? Taco Bell only promotes it because it's their exclusive flavor. If it was really great enough for anyone else to "hype" then exclusivity would put too much of a damper on potential sales for them to ever agree to that. That should have tempered your expectations.

This is close to the highest I have seen for a 20oz bottle. Most of the other ones are around 50g of sugar.

That's pretty spot on. I too had no idea of the flavor. I thought the flavor was Baja. :\

Haven't tried it, but I noticed at a Taco Bell the other day that they have Sangrita Mountain Dew. I assumed the stuff must suck, because they had loads of cases of the stuff at the grocery store with "limited time only" signs. A couple months later, the pile hadn't dwindled by much - it was marked down last week to 10cents per bottle. If it were good, the pile would be gone by now - apparently at 10 cents, it's still hard to sell. (I bought 3 cases at that price - it'll last me a year; I cannot possibly drink a whole bottle at once; it's horrible warm - needs to be ice cold; a bottle is easily 3 servings worth.)

I remember reading on Wikipedia a while back that Mountain Dew people approached Taco Bell with the idea of saying it was "scientifically formulated to go well with Taco Bell food."

But that's not really why I'm here, it's actually pretty good. And the artist there clearly don't understand that orange flavoring is the base flavor of all Mountain Dews.

And if you aren't drinking it a 2 liter at a time, you're doing it wrong.

That's because they load it up with more caffeine. Caffeine is bitter, so if they use more, they have to add more sugar to make it sweet. A lot of people don't just drink it because it tastes so darn good, they drink it to give them a boost.
