<< My PSBs sound fine for me now >>

PSB makes one of the best sounding speakers available at any price.

Amen to that. My parents spent literally all weekend in my room watching my DVDs. I have never seen my dad in awe at anything like it before. I was watching U-571 with my mom and she would jump whenever something exploded, it was so realistic, as if you were there. The only thing I'm missing is an updated TV which I will hold off on. I have to keep my TV until I get to college, as I don't know if I can bring anything bigger than 27" to college with me.

My setup, for those of you that care:

Denon AVR-1601 DD/DTS receiver
PSB Image 2Bs - cherry (front)
PSB Image 8C - black (center)
PSB Alpha A/V - cherry (surround)
Yamaha YST-SW45 (yuck) - black (subwoofer)

Sharp 27" very convex TV (has svideo, I guess it works for a teenager's bedroom)
Samsung DVD-611 (to soon be replaced by a Panasonic CV51 5 DVD changer)
Home Depot 12 gauge wire to the fronts and center
Rat Shack 16 gauge wire - white - the the surrounds (needed to have white coating and I didn't find any 12 ga at HD or Lowes)

All speaker calibrated to 75 dB/channel, room hits 98 to 104 dB during high-action scenes.

Sounds like a pretty nice setup, Elemental. Here's my decent little HT:

Electronics:
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V496 (DD/DTS)
DVD: Panasonic RV-31
TV: Panasonic 27D11 (27", component input...it's okay. can't have anything bigger right now)

Speakers:
Mains: Paradigm Titan v.2's
Center: Paradigm CC-150
Surrounds: Paradigm Atoms
Subwoofer: Paradigm PDR-10 (10")

And my DVD collection just hit 75 titles :D

btw, Paradigm in Canada = CHEAP since they are made here. Almost the same price as in the US, but in Canadian dollars!

also, I agree. U-571 has some incredible sound (bass!). Universal just recently re-pressed their DTS Jurassic Park DVDs. They did not make a public announcment...and everyone knows the original DTS DVD was lacking LFE compared to the laser disc. Well the new one is downright system threatening. It's incredible. BTW, the new ones on the security sticker/spine have "JURASSIC PARK (WS) (DTS)" as opposed to the old ones that had something liek "JURASSIC PARK - DTS"
trust me...the new one is AMAZING.

Your setup seems to be on par with mine although your sub would give you a little more punch. I however think my surrounds are a tad better and I think my center would blow yours away :) Your TV is a bit nicer though.

I'm definitely replacing my DVD player and possibly adding a CD player - but getting a new DVD for sure. The Panasonic 5 DVD changer looks nice, as it can hold DVDs and act as a CD player until I get the upgrade itch.

Well I was really surprised with the Atoms. They have the same quality as the Titans, just less bass. The subwoofer takes care of that anyway :)

btw, read my edit above about jurassic park if you didn't yet

My system

Pioneer Vsx-d608 DD/DTS receiver (100x5 RMS)
Fronts: The big towers you see - going to be sold and I'm going to build tiny towers + mini-monitors for seperate HT + stereo music listening
Center: Sherwood crap - again, going to build new center using exact same drivers as the fronts
Surrounds: Sherwood crappier - once again, going to build new ones using the same driver as the fronts/center
Sub: Pioneer 12inch 200watt RMS HT sub - gonna sell and build a new one with a 15inch Dayton DVC :)

TV: 32inch Toshiba with s-video
DVD: Pioneer dv-525 - the very first one :D
Wire: 12g Ultralink ($1/ft from Bay Bloor.....5 years ago :D)
12g Carol for center
16g AR flat white wire for surrounds

U571 is a pretty cool movie; those depth charges are supposed to go to 16hz.....definetely time to build that new sub ;)

What the hell was I thinking? My Image 2Bs are two steps above your Titans, at least! Your Titans would compare directly to my A/Vs, and your center with the Alpha Center. The Image 1B and 2B are above the Titans and Alphas in virtually every way.

Elemental: yeah, but sound is very subjective. everyone has different preferences and different ears. you can't just look at the cost or specs. i just liked the paradigm sound the most out of what i demo'd (and man were those guys ever pissed how many hours i spent there! hehe). I demo'd a LOT...PSB's too. I prefer a brighter speaker (but not harsh) because it sounds more accurate compared to those really warm sounding speakers. It took at least a month to break in my stuff as well.

i'm very happy with it...although eventually i'd like to upgrade my mains (and surrounds) to Paradigm Studio/40's and my center to a Studio/CC. And then get an SVS.

kami: brighter speakers are usually better for HT, while warmer speakers are almost always better for music reproduction/listening. But it is preferential :D

I have some older Infinity Kappy 9s that I need to do some work on... mainly the woofers in each (10s I believe) have eroded, and the foam has disappeared from around the speaker. Where's a good place for me to buy replacement woofers for those bad boys? The suckers still sound awesome after all this time... just a little unwanted resonance and vibration from the eroded woofers.

See, I like a warmer speaker than the Titans. The Alphas sounded good..not great...at the time I much prefered the sound of the 1Bs but couldn't afford them. The 2Bs IMO give a modeately warm but still good enough for HT sound.
