FINALLY! Tmo to offer unlimited 4G data, 100 minutes for $30/mo

If they're offering these types of plans, does that mean the AT&T purchase might not go through?

It's a shame they only have a crippled version of the Galaxy S2. I would like to get something like this once my contract is up but I really want a Exynos powered S2 or Note.

yeah, and it's a shame that the international unlocked version doesn't work on their 3G and greater bands. I'm still using my T-mo Sim card in my SGS2, no data, and it's OK. just waiting on the proper ATT-based plan to make the switch.

I'm probably going to go with Straight Talk as per Lothar's thread.

looks like it will be limited to six handsets sold at wal mart
i thought they werent selling special phones for this. you have to go out and get a phone.

does anyone know if you could do unlimited tethering with this plan? also what is the speed of tmo "4g" ?

Unless they limit the IMEI's on their network (which TMo is not known to do), I'm sure you'll be able to use any phone.

Sounds interesting. I'm still using my grandfathered cheap unlimited 3G data plan form years ago on an unlocked phone, but this is even cheaper.

is this a big deal?

For me it is. Odd models like the tmobile GS2 never have as good of community support as the models with standard hardware. Also Exynos has much better media playback capabilities as well as better performance than snapdragon

Thats pretty damn good. I have a granfathered family plan: 1500 mins, unlimited data (5gb throttle cap), tmo 2 tmo mins, 1000 texts, 2 lines, for 80 bucks a month for 2 phones. I aint changing a thing, but for new customers this is pretty damn good.

It is actually better if it goes through as Deutsch telecom can just walk away without eating the subsided cost of the phones

Sent from my ADR6400L

I get 5 GB monthly now and I only go over if I stream playoff games or netflix at work. The throttled speeds aren't EDGE speeds. both HSPA and EDGE get throttled to 56kb.

This deal along with Straight Talk, even if they don't fit you, speak volumes about just how profitable $70-$99 monthly plans really are.

This is $50 a month difference compared to the average ~$80 monthly that most USA smartphone users seem to be paying for. 2 year contracts net a $1200 more than this deal. If you didn't know "how carriers can give free and sell cheap phones" you should have an idea now.

someone correct me; in order to use something like Google Voice for your "unlimited minutes" over your unlimited data, you still need some kind of VOIP service, like Groove IP or SIPdroid right?

Correct. If you just use Google Voice to place the call, you will use up your minutes.

They don't mention how roaming charges will work. If the TMO service in your area is quite small or really bad you will roam quite a bit. If its unlimted roaming then it is a very sweet deal but if they charge extra for roaming then its not that great. I can potentially seeing Wal-Mart selling a lot of phones under this contract for the normal user.

It's probably 10c/min over 100min. Still a good deal for someone like me who doesn't like running his mouth and is in front of computer and can use GV all day long. That said, GV is only supposed to be free till end of the year, so we'll see how much the rates are going to be afterwards.
