As a Sirius subscriber, I'm very happy to hear this and I think the real winner will be anyone who subscribes to either satellite provider. But I wonder if we can expect our monthly rates to go up after a merge? I think they'll tick off a lot of people if they jack up the price.

It means more listeners for him, so he's probably happy about it.

Thats gonna be a while and like I said in the other thread(omgits a repost) that its probably not going to happen at all. Even if they do merge your not gonna have a reciever that can get both signals for a long long time. They cannot allienate their entire user base and tell them to get new units, they will have to keep the two seperate.

I paid for 1 year up front. I probably should have gone for the 2 year plan...wonder if I could still get that.

My guess is they will have differently priced "packages" that let you chose channels.

Just like the cable company.

why wouldnt they just be able to add each other's content to their current programming? ie have Stern's 100/101 channels on XM as different channels?

I have XM and i like it...never tried sirius but my uncle has both and says they are pretty much the same. Baseball is the best sport to listen to on the radio and XM has that so its pretty much why I stick with it.

Satellite is extremely bandwidth limited. Theyve already stretched their paltry bandwidth far too thin - doubling the channels would make it absolutely inaudible.

never had xm....but with sirius i usually only listen to howard, maxim and nfl out of market broadcast games. i was gettingt terrible reception at night with espn radio on am so now i just listen to it on satellite and its great.

xm has O&A, oprah and baseball.....sirius has stern, maxim, nfl and nascar. sirius' lineup has more appeal to me then xm's

Why should they get rid of Non-English channels? Some of us here speak more than one language and like to listen to Non-English channels as well as the regular ones. In fact, I wish they had more International channels. Just because you are an uneducated mouthbreather doesn't mean the rest of us are.

Why? Who wants to pay for a sports package they wouldn't ever use? Or hip hop stations they never listen to? If I was a satellite radio customer, my listening habits would be a lot like my cable TV viewing habits - I'd listen to 4 or 5 channels, tops. If I could get those 5 channels for half of what it costs me to get 100+ channels I don't listen to, sign me up.

The only reason for the merge is to eliminate competition and raise rates.

Because if they structured the tiers like most cable companies do currently your scenario would not be supported.
