Part of me wants to get a 928, but half the apps I use would not be available. Sucks that adoption is such a catch 22 with new operating systems.

one time i saw an indian chick with a windows phone, but that was months ago. if i ever saw another person with a windows phone i would probably think they must be a tard to fall for that sales pitch

on a personal level i find the flipping tiles irritating to look and and hard on the eyes. also "flat" seems like a regression

I hope Nokia starts making Android phones as well

Even Nokia investors want Android phones now. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/05/07/us-nokia-agm-idUSBRE9460LV20130507

Elop has almost destroyed Nokia to support Microsoft's failing mobile effort.

My hardcore geek friend uses one because while he loves the customizability of Androids, he just wants a phone where he isn't enticed to spend a lot of time to tweak.

Having just come to android and spending a lot of time with different roms and settings, I'm starting to see where he's coming from. But I think I'll stay with Android.

nokia makes beautiful stuff. if they made android phones they would almost certainly be very popular. they could have what samsung has now. just look how nice their lumia phones are, theres only one problem with them--they run windows. theyre letting this ms trojan horse hold them back. the sooner they get rid of elop the better

Ask Motorola how well selling a lot of Android phones does them. Ask HTC while you're at it. They certainly could make a high quality Android phone and it might be popular, but that doesn't mean it will make them money.

The difference is that Nokia was the number one smartphone manufacturer before they announced their Windows deal. They were selling more smartphones than Samsung and Apple combined.

HTC also makes Windows phones. Even Samsung makes Windows phones, no one wants them, but they still make them. They didn't want to lock themselves into one OS, even an OS that was increasing in popularity.

Now compare that to Nokia. Android was getting popular, and Windows popularity was plummeting. Nokia was the only company stupid enough to sign an exclusive deal for the OS that was loosing market share the fastest.

Now Nokia isn't even in the top 5.

The only place Motorola sells a lot of Android phones is in the US(and that is on one exclusive carrier) and maybe Canada.
Anywhere else in the world, Motorola practically doesn't and might not as well exist.

Nokia is a very popular brand. Just as popular as Apple and Samsung, if not more.
Motorola and HTC, not so much.

HTC still earns a profit making Android phones. I have no doubt in my mind that were Nokia to start making Android phones today, they'll make a profit by the 2nd year refresh of such phones.

if all nokia did was take their current phones, say the new verizon lumia 928 and load android onto them they would be profitable. android good, windows bad. nokia stockholders are stupid to let elop tank the company like this. go ahead and keep making windows phones also, but they need to be worrying about cash flow now

motorolas problem recently has been that they release phones, with previous generation specs, so by the time they are out there, high end buyers want something else. but they make great stuff, they are my preferred brand.

HTC 8X, I think. Not sure I remember one in public (any manufacturer) since before the WP8 launch.

To be fair, I can go a week without seeing a non-Samsung Android.

was the person with a windows phone an indian chick, cuz i think i saw her too

Last Q1 Nokia lost almost $2 billion...this past quarter they lost $180 million. Obviously still a loss, but that's a huge step in the right direction.

Windows phone are great, I have just replaced my old Android one with Lumia 520 and I am loving it. The graphics are nice and the performance is much higher than any android phone of mid price range.

Agree that Nokia is having a bad time but the market of Windows phone is increasing. Last year they were having only 1.9% of users and now they holds a share 5.6% of smartphone share.

There are tons of windows phone users out there. Nokia makes fantastic phones still. People are so stuck with their iOS and Android, they are unwilling to experiment with other platforms.

I will be buying a used 928 soon to replace my still laggy android phone. I am down to only a hand full of apps anyway. I'll take a good camera over useless apps. Only would android phone makers would follow HTC and make a smooth phone with decent camera.

I love my Nokia 920. It works so well with My Surface and Win 8 PCs. After moving from 5 years of iPhones I can happily say I will never go back unless I must. I never cared for Android, always clunky and laggy on every device I used.

Windows Mobile is just a bad fit for Nokia.

Nokia is a very European and International brand. Here in the states its not so big (Moto is our Nokia) but for years in many parts of the world a Nokia phone was a status symbol like the iPhone is now.

So you would assume that Nokia would align with a more international OS, like say an Android based on a Linux that was also created by a Finnish man.

But no, this hugely international phone brand is stuck with locked down Windows and Microsoft, two brands as closely associated with American hegemony as McDonalds and Haliburton.

Nokia was once on the right track, but they took too long to get there because of arrogance and lack of fear.

True, which is why I think MeeGo built on QT was the perfect strategy for the company.
Look how little traction BB10 has been able to get. I doubt MeeGo would have done much better (and given the super-slo-mo of Nokia's software development, I assume worse).

BB made its own mistakes, such as the Playbook diversion. If that would have never happened and BB10 phones came out even nine months earlier things could have been different. If they would have tried harder to transition developers and apps from old BB9 to BB10 things could have been different.

For Nokia, they had an even easier road to plow than BB. The Symbian market was still huge, and those people were used to lower-end features so a Nokia platform that lacked things like elite games or social networking apps would have been fine. Nokia's problem was it dropped this Symbian market like a rock and then tried to compete head-to-head with Apple and Samsung just because MS wanted to.

If Nokia would have called MeeGo "The New Symbian" then it might have kept that market share and those users for longer. Hell Symbian had only a few apps that ran on crap hardware- you think they could have shoved an entire Symbian emulator on a modern phone and had a smooth transition.

People are willing to experiment with smartphones, you just don't like the results. People started with Windows, Symbian, and RIM. Now they switched to iOS and Android.
