Finally Radio Shack may be closing

Something tells me that Best Buy will be the next to go along with Sears, though.

I think Amazon's intention is to have their own version of the Apple store and focus on their own homegrown products in the stores -- likely Kindles, Echo, the phones, and maybe their Amazon Basics line of accessories.

Seems logical. They have a shitload of cables....and they can store amazon lockers in radioshacks instead of 7-11's.

Really? The one in Atlanta is packed full of people every time I am there.

Last week, I went to the nearest RS which is five minutes from my house. Half the store was empty and everything was 25% off because they were closing that location.

I will miss them for those things that I need to have right away, like when I'm in the middle of a project that I don't want to postpone. It's good to have several purchasing options, and RS was a good one for those "I need it now" moments. Though, I will admit that otherwise, I tend to buy online because it's cheaper (often by a lot).

Growing up in the 80's, I liked visiting RS because I was fascinated by all the electronics and computers that they sold at the time. My first computer was a Tandy 1000.

The one in Danbury was a ghost town almost every time I saw it. The only time it wasn't was a few weeks before Christmas 2013 when everyone was trying to snag an XBox One.

Uhh, I've been to Lenox Square Mall a bunch of times and particularly noticed that almost all the "visitors" are employees being paid to dress in plain clothes and "enjoy" the stuff they want you to see. They pay a person to look like they are having fun with a dance game on XBOX Kinect, for example. It's the Tom Sawyer strategy.

Coincidentally... Amazon just opened their first store. On the campus of Purdue University.

Amazon (AMZN, Tech30) announced that it has opened a pickup and drop-off location on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The company is also offering free one-day shipping for students who ship their purchases to the Purdue store.

Amazon said that students "now have a new convenient option for receiving textbooks and college essentials" and also "a hassle-free way to return textbook rentals and other orders."

The company said it is looking to expand to more universities soon.

Going to radio Shack back in the 80's was like a magical experience for me. Been to one recently (a month ago) and nothing of interest or appealing to me. I walked out soon after empty handed. Have no desire to go back.
