I didn't realize until I started looking just how many different models there are out there. It's unreal. After reading this forum and doing my own research for the past two days, I finally decided on a Samsung 940B. I found the silver version at Buy.com for $299. It was $40 cheaper than the black version. Along with free shipping, I also got thirty dollars off by signing up for a Buy.com Visa card. I'm hoping that I read Buy.com's return policy correctly. There weren't any applicable exclusions, so I'm assuming I've got the 30 days to send it back in case some pixels decide to misbehave. I had almost completed a transaction at Samsclub.com on an NEC 90GX2. Sam's Club has an insanely liberal return policy. However, they only had the white one. Everything else on my computer system is black with silver trim. I felt that the big white LCD in the middle of everything would stand out like a sore thumb. I'm glad I decided to check out Buy.com before I pulled the trigger.

My main reason for getting an LCD is kind of unusual. When I had my house constructed a couple of years ago, the air conditioning folks put a small vent in my home office. It's a small room, so they didn't figure it would need much. Unfortunately, they didn't factor in the heat generated by a 21" Dell P1130 CRT. Seriously, this thing is like a space heater. In the summer, I sweat my butt off. A ceiling fan helps, but it doesn't do much. To compensate, I have to turn the thermostat down to like 69 or 70 degrees. Not only do a freeze everyone else in the house to death, I also pay out the nose on my power bill. Heck, it's only April, and I'm already feeling the effects. The air conditioning tech told me it would cost about $200 to install a bigger vent. That, along with the savings I'll see on my electric bill, helped me justify the purchase. :D

That tax refund was burning a whole in my pocket anyway.

I'm really looking forward to getting an LCD, which generates very little heat. Plus, I get sick of having to reconfigure the refresh rate for all the resolutions every time I upgrade video drivers like I do with the CRT.

Thanks to everyone for posting such helpful information. It was invaluable in my quest for the right LCD. I'll report back after I receive the monitor and have a chance to use it for a couple of days.
