Finally played Grid 2 demo.

Saw nothing that made me wanna drop fifty dollars.

I think I know why companies arent excited to release a demo. All it can do it hurt sales. Loads of advertising and a few unhappy customers seems like a smarter route (business wise). Of course theres people like me who refuse to buy from certain publishers because they've been burned once too often.

I took the bait and bought it. Played 5 minutes and haven't played since. I might play again though, but its just like the first one and nothing new.

Grid 2 is ok, but not $50 worth. (I got it free on PS3). They did add the free DLC derby mode which is practically all I play, but it has a very infuriating bug in the tracks that flags you and puts you at the back of the pack for no reason. If they don't fix that, I dont plan on playing it long.

I like racing games.
I waited until it was $25 and bit; I've put about 15 hours in it - it was fun.
I wanted to play more online races, but the PC community is pretty dry.

I'd say when it hits that $10-$15 range, give it a shot.

not free on PSN anymore? It was nice to actually have a big playerbase to race against.

Of course it suffers from demolition derby mode lol

If the game blows, sure.

Chief examples of games I've bought because a demo existed are Braid, Limbo, M&M Clash of Heroes, and The Walking Dead (Telltale). Probably a few other XBLA games as well.

I've also passed on games because of demos.

Demos are a good thing.

The statistics show sales hurting (due to the existence of a demo) because most games are crap. Well established devs [and especially on well established franchises] don't need to release demos. Demos that are released skew even harder to be demos of crap because of this.

The statistics against demos only really show that you can shovel more garbage onto consumers if you don't give them a way to know your product is garbage beforehand.

I made the mistake and bought it when it came out. I seriously regretted it almost instantly. It was such a dumbed down experience. And they forced me to watch the XP or credits or whatever being added... Wtf?

There were quite a few bugs as well. You'd think a company named Codemasters would try and have as few bugs as possible...

I paid about £4.99 on steam. But am I the only person who enjoys it? Everyone everywhere online slates it, but I think it's OK for what it is. After playing F1, assetto corsa, GTR, race 07 etc, and obsessing with lap times, it's very nice to bang on Grid 2 and just drive. Secondly, maxed out it looks awesome I think.

The first one was good, but had a very very unpredictable dodgy handling model I thought, very in consistant. 2 doesn't seem as annoying to drive.
