Finally ordered an e8400, hoping for E0.

I wouldn't be concerned. The IP35-E vDIMM adjustments are in 0.05v increments to 2.1v and then 0.1v thereafter. Even if you have to bump it, you could do 1.85v and that should be sufficient. The sticker on the GBPQs says 1.8v-1.9v so warranty should be good to at least 1.9v which you won't need for 450 FSB.

Good to know, thanks. I'll shoot for 4ghz tonight. . . or maybe tomorrow night. I have to spend some time packing my old parts and replying to PMs about the great selloff I have going in FS/FT forum. Now that I'm all up and running I should seriously take care of that and get everyone's goods on the way before I really start playing with my new goodies.

Mine (E0, from Newegg CA on 9/5/08)
Retail HSF

Stock 3.0
Idle - 41c
Games - 51c
Orthos - 55c

3.2 (3dmark06 = 13.5k)
Idle - 41c
Games - 56c
Orthos - 66c

3.6 (3dmark06 = 13.9k)
Idle - 43c
Games - 66c
Orthos - 76c

4.0
Idle - 43c
Games - didn't try
Orthos - 78c after about 1 minute, then I shut it down....

So, 3.2 is kind of a sweet spot for me because I can run ram at stock 1066 (1071 actually) and temps aren't outrageous, same idle and only +5c in games.

At 3.3 ram has to be underclocked, and at 3.6 temps are significantly higher (+20c over stock in Orthos, +10c over 3.2Ghz yee-ouch).

4.0 isn't happening with stock HSF obviously....

Just to give you an idea of what your chip is capable of with some aftermarket cooling (seeing as it's binned the same as the new E0 E8600's):

Yeah cooling is the last of my concerns with the Tuniq. It's nice to only have to worry about voltages -- for the most part -- when trying to find the sweet spot in terms of speed and volts.

If I make it to 4ghz under 1.3 for vcore, ideally 1.25 to 1.27/8, I'll be pumped.

Oh I have no doubt you can reach 4.4 maybe higher with better cooling.

Intel lists the thermal spec at 74.1c so I wouldn't go over that for any length of time.

The above numbers were with P5Q Pro left on "auto" vcore. It does increase a little, 1.256 currently at 2.2Ghz (speedstep) and 1.264 at 3.2Ghz. I think it hit 1.3x at 3.6, but I don't remember exactly, and I don't think I even looked at 4.0 but it was probably 1.3x or higher...
