This driver update was a must if you do any editing with Windows Live Essentials: Movie Maker. So far the driver works well for me. Thanks Nvidia :)

Skyrim performance boost + AO very impressive, the sort of thing that really makes it worth upgrading for :)

Thread Hijack of sorts:
Is AO enabled with Radeon cards or not? I haven't seen anything in regards to this. If there is now for GeForce cards and not Radeons, then Nvidia has an advantage for the time being. This then spurs the additional question of if Radeons do not have AO in Diablo 3 now, will they in the future?

Good explanation.

If a game has in-game support :HBAO SSAO, it's preferable to implement there, if not through NV control panel.
I can't answer the radeon question.

Thanks for this. From just skimming Google, AO is available with Radeons from at least some of the 5000 series forward. However, I haven't looked for anything more specific. Things are busy at the office today. :)

Anyone with MSI GTX 570 TF III PE/OC edition or any 570 for that matter have issues with this update? Just wondering before I bite.

These drivers suck. They don't fix old games or take care of the TDR bug from what I've heard.

I wish nvidia and AMD would go out of business for making such shitty drivers. It's ridiculous really.

Yawn, you hope for anarchy ? Almost everyone is online, and gives opinions. My experience is excellent with all recent Nvidia drivers. Making a sweeping comment after one day of reading experience with this day old driver and making outrageous condemnation is not helpful.

Have you personally had any difficulties with these drivers and the "old games" of which you speak? Have you personally experienced the TDR problem with these drivers? And exactly what is the source of your "from what I've heard". Unsubstantiated claims are useless.

Agreed. Although, I don't game anymore this driver was much appreciated on my end. I am new to using Nvidia graphics and so far I am a fan. ;)

I haven't upgraded Geforce drivers in YEARS with an outdated Ti4200 and would appreciate anyone giving me the rundown on how to upgrade at current. I use W7 64 bit w/a 580 and so would obviously download the appropriate drivers. Am I correct in wanting to uninstall the old drivers first? What next...any other steps??

Check custom install, then check clean install, then check physX , graphic driver, if you use 3D, select the 2 -3d options, and if you want update features , check update. If you use the audio out from the hdmi port of the video card you can update that driver as well. If you are using motherboard audio , then don't select the audio driver. I have the gpu card audio device disabled in device manager, so I don't even see the option to install a audio driver.

So do these updates similarly improve performance on say a GTX 480?

Most gains are seen for a 560, also the big touted gain is only seen indoors and using 8xmsaa.

These started giving me graphic corruption in BF3, so back to 290.53. These still do not have an Alan Wake SLI profile, so I can wait to try anther set when they get up to date with SLI profiles.

Is this after you uninstall the old drivers or do you not have to do that -- hence the clean install ?

When you check clean install, you don't have to manually uninstall your old driver, this step is done automatically. You can tell, your monitor will go black for several seconds when the old driver is uninstalled and again when initializing with the new driver.
I like to re-boot at the end, even if the installer does not state it's necessary.

I tried to give them a second chance, still EVERY GAME is borked. BF3/heaven benchmark/torchlight/SS:2 all have graphic errors you can't even play so bad. Chrome youtube videos give "drive stopped responding errors" Even tried the old "change power performance to maximum" fix as before and still messed up.

Reinstalled 290.53 and everything is perfect.

I would venture a guess it has something to do with physics they include. I don't understand how they can go from ok to flat out terrible, let alone certified terrible.

This is on GTX580 SLI.

Gave these a shot, they work fine and BF3 performance went up on my 1gb cards in both single and dual gpu mode. I've tried three games with in game AO options and they're all showing performance improvements. Sadly youtube playback is broken again (video corruption switching between quality levels for me) and I had a single instance of scrolling my mouse over a picture which left a trail of rectangular artifacts on the screen. Closed the article I was reading, reopened the browser and I haven't seen it since. Video playback issue is the only one I can reproduce, zero issues elsewhere though.

that is because flash GPU acceleration is BS and does so on all browsers.
You need to disable GPU acceleration for adobe flash.
